hi

iv lowerd the rear of my mini using hilos and gaz adjustable dampers.
its not that low, iv seen alot lower!!
the thing i carnt get my head round is how to stop the rear wheels from rubbing on the inside of the arch?
i dont notice it happening but i can clearly see were it is rubbing on the inner arch.
i have 6x10'' wheels, and the drums on the rear are the ones with the built in spacers.
any ideas??

cheers

If it's rubbing with 10s on then it's pretty low. To stop it rubbing you either need to raise it, lighten it, put stiffer springs on, fit an anti-roll bar, or go slower.

Personally I'd raise it a bit, too low at the back and minis get a bit twitchy in my experience, unless you compensate by adjusting the caster at the front.

well in the boot i have fuel tank (obviously) spare wheel, small tool box incase of break down (its not that heavy).
if i stiffen it up anymore than it will hop about when going quick round a ronabout.
at the moment the rear dampers (gaz) are set at -23 from hardest and the hilo setting is 25mm inside of nut (just the thread)

hope that makes sense.

Shock stiffness wont really affect the rubbing of the arches.

Try raising it a little bit at a time, say 5mm (so 1mm longet trumpet, or a flat at a time). If You cant hear it but ther is evidence on th tyre then it's pretty close to not hitting.

Try putting some sparces on the wheel to push em out.

What offset are you running?

I have 10 x 6 and spaced rear drums and they've never rubbed on the inner arches!

not sure what the off set is there MB minilite copys.
i was thinking about the spacers but dont realy like the idea of the extra leverage on everything like the bearings and studs.

Ahh, the iner wing part is rubbing , not the arch bit.

either 5mm spacers, or find where it is rubbing and get a hammer out.

Not all minis are the same (not one is the same actually) and the seam at the rear of the arch of the boot floor and inner wing area can stick out more on some than others. just needs persuasion with a hammer.

i was very tempted to 'adjusted' it with a hammer but i thought it would be classed as bodging lol *laughing*
it seems that it rubs all the way round the inner arch, apart from the very bottom of the inner arch (if you know what i mean)
ill have another look at it at the weekend and get the hammer out! lol

id try the spacers first, as its reversible if you find that you sart going through bearings (which i doubt will happen with the offset your wheels seem to have).

We have 5mm spacers on the rear of all the HHR road minis. amd 10mm one on the TT. No spacers on the front.
