engine mount recommendations plz guys, mine are shot! due to oil leaks, they are bad & i want to sort them asap! is there an uprated type, i'm putting a turbo motor in the car in spring so would prefer to have better than standard if possible,

i've uprated the steady bar bushes all round & added an ultimate engine steady too!

cheers again guys!

id avoid the solid metal/captive nut type, as they will make your car reverberate like an old airplane, and also the nuts dont always line up, which makes them a nightmare to install without redrilling/enlarging subframe holes or cross threading the nuts.

if its a road car, i would think new std ones would be fine.

Im going to try those snazzy poly q/release ones, which alot of people have given bad press, but i did see a pic of a miglia that had them the other day so hopefully they cant be all that bad...

*edit* just to add, if you are using the poly q/release type, get some cap heads for the engine-side halves of the mounts, the std bolts snag the subframe-side of the mounts on installation.....if that makes sense.

well i had a chat to the guy at minutes the other day & most ppl are saying the poly quick reliease ones are a nightmare to line up & standard type with the nuts tacked on are the best too go for,

i thought you turbo guys may use something more substantial, i've done most jobs on a mini but never engine mounts, looks a simple task but fiddly & a pain,

are the poly engine mounts that are the same as standard mounts in desighn available, are they any good, i'm thinking of going poly due to it not being affected by oil like rubber is

minits?
the poly q/r ones can be a pain if you use the std bolts as i outlined above, but mine slotted straight in so....?

basically i think his advice is sound, std ones that you have added captive nuts will be the simplest, just make sure you line up the bolts/holes before welding.

not sure you can get solid poly ones, but if so probably worth a try...

haha! sorry i did mean min-its!!! rather than minutesi have a right chuckle on now! sad i know!

i may give these quick relase ones a bash then with the type of bolt your using as there is a place called woolies thats v near where i live that do lots of nut's bolts, trim fixings etc, they are in practial classics, i'm just trying to uprate what needs to be in prep for my turbo motor so its a simple sway in future, trying to plan ahead *surprised*P

what company makes these quick release poly mounts as min-its were waiting on orders & really low on stock of alot of stuff, is it superflex or deflex i'm unsure? how much to, many thanks jo!!! appreciated alot!

Use the standard ones and make sure they are the genuine ones or you'll be jumping up and down on the rocker cover to try and get the bolt holes to line up!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

standard are spot on, imho. i bought some cheap ones with welded on nuts off ebay and my engine wouldnt fit in no matter what i did. got genuine ones and hey presto:)

chrikey! some split thoughts but genuine standard seems to be winning, so would my best option be standard engine mounts with uprated steady bar bushes from the engine & gearbox

i reckon u would get away without using a ultimate engine steady if you used the poly bushes (normal type).
the ultimate engine steady gets in the way imo.

I had a set once and the only thing quick about them was the amount of time it took for me to cut through them with a hack saw!

If you really want a set off "quick" release poly ones I've got a pair somewhere in the workshop which you can try, just PM me your details.

:EDIT: As an aside the metal pins/rods on the poly mounts are the prefect size for making studs to hold the plenum on the carb.

if you get teh poly ones, use some grease or vaseline on the pins before insertign them, if tyou dont the pin can get "stuck" .. loved them and would happily fit them again if i ever went back to the "a"

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I use std genuine mounts that came with the car. The car is a miglia with internal gearchange and is fine.

It does have 4 rose jointed steadies on it though!
