ive been thinking alot about the rear valance at the moment. i understand it can cause quite a lot of wind resistance, now ive seen people which remove the valance( which i dont like) and ive seen people cut holes and triangles in (quite common lol) so i was thinking cut a big hole init and mesh it (copying TVRdave). but ive had anther idea underneath a lotus elise is aluminium paneled off compleately. so does any one have any opinions on this or have tried it obviously itwould have to have a cut out for the exhaust. i was thinking of doing the front subby and rear. no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

its done to smooth the airflow underneath the car. It gives a slight amount of downforce to the back of the car if its done right. And the proximity to the ground gives a much higher downforce due to the ground effect. That is considering that the diffuser underneath has an increase cross section to allow the negative pressure area to be generated.

a few years ago i saw a panel at smb composites that completely blanked off the underneath of the subframe and came up at the back (ala elise), not sure if he ever put it into production though? "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

Flat flooring is a great idea, it will make the car more stalbe at speed, and reduce the drag produced.

i think its a great idea too, but be warey as for some motorsprt disaplines there are regulations that prohibit the use of aerodynamic aids, i know rallying (at international levels anyway) dont like them. "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

Well the flatter the underneath the more aerodynamic. On our hillclimber we have a sheet off aluminium that goes from the heel board to the valance. Without the sheet there it was about 3mph slower on flatout 4 gear sprints. More noticeable though is that it vibrates at speed much less.

my car is runs as per Will's - it also keeps the rear end more stable as well as running more top end speed.

I was thinking. If you make a plate from the heelboard and to the bottom of the valance. you'll hav lift, won't you? Isn't the valance lower to the cround than the heelboard, or are they the same? On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Well it doesn't go down. It is at worst flat, but I think the rear valance is slightly higher than the heel board. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

Good, That was what I was concerned about. How thick is your plate? On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

1mm aluminum, bolted streight onto the heel board, subframe and then some long bolts onto the valance.
