Good site, just read the technical on the Williams Active Suspension. Working in motorsport its quite interesting to learn about the more modern side of F1 from having worked on 80s f1 cars for a few years the modern stuff is fascinating. Anyone who wants to see some similar stuff check out

Its a fantastic system the active suspension, have a look for the lotus system as well they used the the Lotus 98-T which also had active suspension but back in 1987!!

my lecturer Malcom McDonald worked on that, he said it was ace, very smooth. However the pumps were so noisy and heavy that it made it pointless. Also the fact they took about 50bhp to run made it a bit silly!

The lotus version was the forerunner then Williams went on and perfected it with the fw14. But then the active suspension gave the ultimate repeatibility in aerodynamics as the amount of airflow was constant.
Are you still at uni then? I couldn't see the point in carrying on after doing my HND in Motorsport i had acheived all i wanted!

I finished this year, im still looking for work :(

Went for an couple of interviews at williams, but didnt get the job.

I also still yearn for information, i feel ive only scratched the surface with my degree. Id love to do another in material science.

So anyone who wants someone who can produce an idea, deisgn it, validate the deisng with FEA then fabricate in most materials.

Get in touch!

Cheers
