Ok. My Queastion is. ? How many and what type. I dont wont to have to change bushs ever week. But i dont wont to end up with a whole load of snapped bolts in bad places.

So Far, I'm running solid (Alloy) mounts all round for the front sumbframe. And solid subframe rear mounts. And Engine wise i,ve got new standard engine mounts and thats as far as i've got.

I would like to rose joint the whole thing. 2 top either side of engine. in replace of dogbone and rad side, and 2 gearbox going to the front of the subframe.

Sounds a bit over kill but hay why not.

What do you think.

I drill holes in everything..!

Avonbars ultimate engine steady looks to be a good bit of kit, althogh i havent driven a car fited with one yet.

its diferent to the usuall one's in that it fixes to the waterpump so you don't have to remove it when you take the head off, also its adjustable and takes std type/poly bushes so could be changed for a rose jointed dog bone.

Funny. I've just been looking at your photo album as well. And you do have one.

Does it clear the belt drive for the water pump.
Looks close from the pics.?

it does look close in one of the pics but it's just the angle its taken at, theres a good 10mm (prob closer to 13mm) clearance, and thats the large beltdrive pulley.

i think the plate on the water pump on these could do with a slight bend to put less stress on the rubber.

Looks like a sensible idea, a rose jointed tie bar would do that quite nicely.

Think I’m going to you this as inspiration in making one. I've already had to modify my pump to take an input from an electric pump.

I must say i like the idea of Specialist Components bars with a rose joint at 1 end, perhaps a good half way measure between std and solid mounted?

http://www.specialist-components.com/cnb/s...ine+Steady+Bars

thinking about it I'm not sure how well that avonbar steady will hold up as the bolts are only in single sheer, It sould be ok in my car as I have a remote box anyway, just about the best steady ther is!! but with a rod change box i'd be keeping a close eye on the std dogbone bushes so the avonbar one only ever acted as extra support.

If i get bored may mod the avonbar one though, althou it could be a it tricky geting the bolts into double shear...

I agree, the Avonbar one picture above is great!

regarding gearbox steadys, I like to run a pair of the mini spares ones from the rear of each side of the box to the rear "legs" of the subframe, you could run a pair forwart to thefront of the subframe but the minispares ones are off the shelf...

AlsoI dislike having a steady running forwards and one back, in my head they are "fighting" each other!

I run the standard top steady with poly bushes. Its reinforced where it mounts onto the bulkhead as it tends to snap here and the holes go oval. The bottom bit that is attulay attached to the shell has small gussets added and the top bit that goes on under the master cylinders has a 3 mm washer welded in it to give the bolt more thickness to bare on.

The standard gearbox stedy with polybush which has been modified so that it is in double sheer (very important as the old one broke where it joined the single shear mount on the subby)

Then a old type 'ultimate engine steady' on the stat housing with rubber bushes.

Its rock solid! think its mostly down to using poly buses which dont go soft like rubber ones! Rember if you put soild rose joints arms on the arm wont break but its more likely to break the mounts!

I always end up on that site. very nice stuff indeed.

I was looking at getting 4 rose jointed
bars from Force racing a.k.a Fast Carl.

Already got made up an alloy plate on the clutch/brake master cyclinder side.
And just weighing up options on the other side.

Wont to try and keep the engine bay clear and functional.

My friends car runs 4-5 of the force steadys and it works very well indeed.
Its blue and very fast. My car wont be blue and wont be as fast. so should do ok.

Ive never bothered using a gearbox steady, im guessing this is the one that attaches to the front of the subby near the starter?

Does it make much difference whether its used or not, it looks to low down to function well enough?
