Chaps ...
Ok probably another silly question ..

Bonnets Bonnets Bonnets

some people use the standard bonnet
some people use ERA glass bonnet
some people cut some hole in their bonnet

What is the score here; I am still struggling to get my one up and running for brighton . I think I can do it actually quite easyly (famous last word)

but what I am interested in is your views / experiances regarding getting the hot air away from the turbo ?

Do they work ok with just a standard bonnet ?
I really dont fancy a scoop ( *laughing*) cos i dont like 'em

What about useing a hole cutter and making a few holes ??

Go on chaps what do you all think or have learnt

I've just got about 8 holes in the back of the bonnet, seems fine.

You could try a cold air pipe from the grill if there is room

A Merc E series vent would work well ! Help keep your windscreen clean and vent the hot air from the engine bay

9 valves, 4 wheel drive, 3 cylinders, 1 turbo, which got nicked

I have a set of rs turbo vents, with a small orignal style era turbo scoop. I also raise the boonet at the back by using the pins. On previous other cars i had 3 inch circular holes drilled in the front of the bonnet.

The era turbo scoop if fitted with the vent facing the windscreen, this is because its more important on a turbo to get hot air out than to take cold air in.

I fitted the vents with the scoop to create a continual flow of air.

Paul.

P.S my bonnet is made of fibreglass and came from absmotorsport, thought the fit is not great (not noticed cause of the raised boonet) and my wings are orignals.

halfords do a stick on era bonnet vent for about twenty quid they have to order them in but mine only took a couple of days though and i cut some holes in the bonnet before fitting the vent

p.s the sticky stuff only lasted a couple of months my vents now screwed on which i dont mind cos it matchesy wheel arches *tongue*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

My quickest runs on the drag strip have been with the bonnet off.

I believe it is very important to loose some of that heat under the bonnet.

i thought of cutting holes in the bonnet as I said at the start of this thread,,,,

then I was gunna rob the tray that is under the metro bonnet ; this catches the water and you can then just rune a pip to the front edge of the bonnet onto the ground !!
