not my idea, my mate is planing on buying a 1380 lump for his mini and has some funny ideas!!
he says you dont need a turbo to have a intercooler fitted and to gain bhp!! i said he should look into it as he could look silly, am i right??
he also reckons that a 1293 turbo wont need s/c gears etc but a N/A 1380 would lol.
i think hes in for a shock when i get my turbo done lol

what you all think?? hes a compleate knob or is he correct (about the intercooler that is)??

OK even a carb setup needs the coolest possible air to work more efficiently but nothings cooler than outside air. tell him to try shoving the outside air right into it, why waste money on an intercooler???

I guess he just has the wrong end of the stick. If he understands that putting cooler air into the engine gains bhp then he is half way there. I guess an ice filled chargecooler could actually work on a NA motor......

Well as the engine sucks air in, the pressure always drops slightly and so the temperature DROPS, the outside air going over the intercooler slows down and the pressure rises over the fins, and so the temperature RISES. So the intercooler will actually heat the air more than normal (in my head anyways!).

If you could get the intercooler into some kind of mega low pressure air stream then it may cool it SLIGHTLY. otherwise a dry ice charge cooler would work.

As for the SC's, hes a silly billy! The turbo motors is the one making the torque, and thats where you need stronger gears and bearings!

EDIT - just thought some more, the pressure drop that is always present across the intercooler will probably remove any advantage from the cooler air, so screw it, dont do it!

i triy to tell him but hes one of those types that thinks he knows best and is the best....
he says that the transit vans have intercoolers but not turbos!?
i reckon he thinks that because the transit he saw only says intercooled, and not turbo-intercooled. maybe.
ill let him look silly wit ha N/A 1380 and intercooler lol
