The problem is, when you press on the clutch pedal there seems to be no resistnace until you get to the last 1 inch of travel at which point feels normal.

Its on my brothers mini, and all I know is he changed down a gear after that he heard a knock and the pedal is as above.

I had a look to find the return spring missing, fitted that but now he can't engage any gears? Took it back off and now he can?

Im thinking that the problem is the master cylinder leaking as it is 30 years, old and the slave cylinder is a year old?

Anyone recognise these symptoms at all.

Sorry about the ramblings, hope it all makes sense!

Matt

Try rebleeding the system then adjust the the adjustment bolt (the little bolt that sets how far back the arm comes) in accordance with the Haynes manual.

i had this happen when i had fitted an R clip to the master cylinder pin, the clip came off and the pin poped out, the pedal still pushed the master slightly even without the pin.

worth a look.

Yea I used an R clip aswell, as there a pain in the arse trying to get a split pin/out. Could well be that by the sound of things. :(
