Done a search but cant find the answer.

I measured the crank endfloat on strip down of my A+ 998 at 0.004"

My latest Haynes say that it should be 0.002 to 0.003.

An old Haynes, pre A+, says 0.001 to 0.005.

I'm sure I read somewhere in one of the Vizard books that you should increase the clearance over standard for high performance use.

The problem is that, even if I could get hold of some +0.003 thrust washers, I would then have only 0.001.

Shall I leave it as it is?

1 thou in my opinion is too tight.

I have heard of engine builders that recomend about 7 thou (although thats for higher reving stuff) as long as it's all in good condition i'd leave as is.

i got mine at 2 thou, you kind of need this for the heavy clutches, you can always use a bit of wet and dry on one side to make the gap bigger

What do the old thrusts actually measure? Are they worn by a thou or two? Can you mike them up and compare what a new one is?

Which clutch spring are you using?
I would never use 0.004 better get it down towards 0.002-0.003. It's easy to get osm 0.003 thrusts and sand them down or having them milled down. If you aren't prepared to do such stuff, you shouldn't be building engines.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

orange, i know its nearing the "outer" tolerence, but the way i see it is the oil will take up a thou or so too..

anyway, im happy to give it try, even if some people would consider it a bit of a loose build.

If its a disaster, ill put o/s thrusts in when i put a new box on in the new year.
