Hopefully I'll be fitting my zetec jets on the weekend and having read & reread all the threads, and Phil's website I've still got one question:

Do people use any form of sealant when fitting the jets? or do you just rely on a tight fit to seal them in? The reason I ask is that I ask is that I'm worried about oil leaking out around the base of the jet.

leeds/wakefield.

i'm just going to put a small amout of thread type seal on the bore where it sits in the block, not too much mind,it wouldn't really matter if there was a small leakage as its inside the engine and there plenty oil pumping around.

Why not counterbore the hole a little and use a viton (so it will live with the oil and heat) o-ring? That will help keep the oil pressure up....

That is what I intend to do.

Stupid question but what is a Viton o-ring and where can I find four of them?

viton O ring is a regular o ring that handles more temperature

Viton is the material the o-rings are made from. It has very good high temperature properties and is used in a lot of modern enigne instalations because it doesn't degrade in the manor that produces hydroflouric acid .... nasty stuff and the reason I won't touch anything out of a burnt out car!!!

As for where to get them from I'd suggest you check to see if there where any o-rings used in the original Ford instalation!

Failing that I'd use Anti-Friction in Gloucester but that is more because they are close to my mums house rather than any other reason.
Any decent seal supplier should be able to sort you out for a few pence per ring.

Any colour you like mate, colour is just down to the pigment used.

The green ones have been taken off all new stuff as the pigment is not nice for you.

Brussels .. .got to love it ... a place so dull the only thing it can do is make everybody else in europe as miserable as it is ... LOL

Viton rubber does produce hydrofluoric acid when subjected to intense heat.

It does you are quite right ...... but only if you get it hot enough to burn ..... in which case it is really not your main issue!!!

Most oil safe synthetic rubber do. With viton at least you can see that it's likely to be there, quite a few other synthetic rubber can degrade with heat and leave you with a problem you can't identify.

Guess I should have been more clear, thank you for the correction. Should not post really when half asleep ..LOL
