Hello All,

I have been in the Mini seen for a while but I'm very new to this turbo stuff, I bought a Metro turbo engine off ebay 2 days ago (which I'm planning to rebuild over the summer).

I'm going to putting it in my '88 City E, I'm looking to upgrade the brakes on the cheap. I've been given some 4 pot calipers, I'm told there off a metro. Do I need metro discs to? Also the brake system only runs off a master cylinder at the moment, would a brake servo be better for stopping power and where would I cheaply get hold of one?

Any advice welcomed

thanks

Yes, Im getting there.....

try a scrapyard for the servo, it might need refurbishing but ( correct me if i'm wrong) it shouldn't come to too much in total, or at least no where near the cost of buying new

Dont bother with the servo untill you se how the pedal feels with the for pots, IMHO its not needed.. and it takes up alot of space.

for the conversion you NEED:

Brake hose conversion kit.
Metro drive flange
Metro disk
Metro caliper

Mini(8.4 inch setup) Hub
Mini(8.4 inch setup) Steering arm bit that attaches to hub
Mini(8.4 inch setup) Outer CV

And ERA caliper bolts :)

What is the performance difference between servo and non-servo?
My car is (before i started stripping it) useing a servo but like you said it takes up so much room and i wanted to know what the non-servo types were like.
cheers

well put it this way, i can stil stop my car on its nose without the servo no sweat, BUT with the servo the brakes bit alot sharper when you first touched them , and when driving around town, so they felt beter on light applications. HEavy brakeing they didnt make the blindest bit of difference.

and your foot gets used to applying a little extra pressure to compensate, so it aint a problem IMHO. :)

if you can cope with a mini clutch and heavy traffic, un-servod brakes are ok :)

If you are planning to use a combined brake/master cylinder unit, don't forget to get the break pedal that goes with it as they are slightly different.

hummm,
i'll check the scrappy for a non-servo setup. If i don't find one i'll stick with the servo setup.
It's all about space!!!!
