Well changed the headgasget yeaterday after blowing it on friday. The gasget blew between a waterway and no.4 cylinder. When it was appart i checked both surfaces for warping, but they was both fine. Put her all back together, Torqued everything up correctly, drainged contaminated oil and replaced with new stuff and turnt the key to start her up.

I was really suprised to hear her running lumpy. Let it warm up, just incase that was the problem, but it wasnt. Now i must say that she was running fine befor the HG went. When shes running and just about ticking over she will start hunting (cant see y, as no idle controll valve or electronic choke), and both sparkleads on 3/4 cylinders can be removed without the engine note changing. Now both cables( throttle and choke) are not sticking and ive also changed the plugs and leads for new ones, but its still the same. Ive done another compression test and the consistency if fine.

Wots really strange is she drives fine, will hold constant speeds (even 70mph) and starts fine everytime! But still on tickover she seems to be running on two! Oh n i did have an air leak in the inlet manifold on the left side (feeding cylinders 3/4) but this has now been fixed.

Any ideas?

it may b small but it purfectly formed

A compression test will reveal all here!

I suspect that the head is not completely flat and the new gasket has failed between 3 and 4, or perhaps 3 and 4 valve seats are U/S?

In that case you must have an ignition problem, as the only reasons for a cylinder not to fire are poor compression, or duff spark.
