Rust free

Now that is something tht shouldnt be said in describing a Mini.

It should be

Theres no rust, where you can see it

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

My Mpi is a 1998 and is starting to go around the scuttle pannel and the front just under the lights. Apart from that it is the shell really good.

They are the most comfy minis you will ever find decent sound deadening etc. Performance is reasonable. however if you have been driving well setup 1293 etc then they will feel sluggish. However if your only experience is a only 50k plus mg metro engine then it will do just fine. *smiley*

Oh forgot to add gearbox. Some of them seem to go on forever, others need a new box at about 50k, The only thing I can put it down to is there was more than one friday in the week on the assemberly line :/

Jep, I got a -98 MPI :) Bought it a month ago, but it drives well (without the sportpack wheels) and is a nice car. They all rust a little at the usual places like under the windscreen, under the headlights :(

I put the gearbox failures down to one thing. Frequency and quality of oil changes. Rovers 12,000 service interval is plain ludicrous

thats a nice looking mpi in the link i like that a lot. i think being owned by somone who obviously put a lot of time and effort into it has a big bearing on them,
this one of my mates was owned by a lady that i think just used and abused it then swapped it for something newer and it shows. it had 18k on it when my mate got it and the first job he did on it was take it to the bodyshop to get rust treated! it realy needs the whole front and scuttle/windscreen surround sorting now, id still have one if the price was right tho, his one seems to take everything in its stride and does it with a bit more class than my old clubby! i mean hell its got an intermitent wipe! mines got 1 speed and a plunger to make the washers work lol

I've got a 2001 one. and if you are prepared to invest in beefing up the engine abit then they are great.

if its reliability you want they are very reliable the only time i've had toruble with mine was when i rewired it incorrectly after having the engine out.

go for it.

So why did you have the engine out? Because of reliability? :)

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

indeed i did mr jackman.

the diff is 2.7 which is far to long for an n/a mini on 13"'s

that is one of the best mods i've done actually it transformed the car.

I reckon you can run it on carb, on MPI engine, just megajolt it, and run su carb. it will be extra reilable.

it will be gay and also way go back to carb when the emissions are set for injection would be a nightmare at mot time.

You could....

You could also get rid of the lights in your house and go back to candles to read by.

LOL
