At long last and after sending the first delivery back (thanks parcelforce for smashing all my carbon panels *angry* ) i have finally got my MK1 bonnett and Miglia arches, ordered a boot as well but they forgot to send it *oh well*

Has anyone on here bought these arches and fitted them? They look absolutely spot on but there is no lip or holes in them for fitting. The only way i can think of fitting them is to bond some sort of bracket onto the underside of the arches and fix them on that way.

If anyone has come across this before or has any clever ideas on fitting then please let me know :)

Pictures to follow!

Make up some little L shaped brackets (well sort of L shaped) and bolt through the arches. Could bolt/bond/weld them onto the car (the brackets i mean). Im getting a set of these and thats how i was planning to do it.

Bolts through the arches *oh well* , dont like the sound of that. I want the arches to be fitted with no fixings showing as this will ruin the look of them and i dont want them trashed after spending a small fortune on them.

I know what you mean, i was gonna use about 5 brackets and use some round head allen key bolts. Was thinking of getting them in anodised black as well to hide them a bit more. A friend of mine always bonds stuff on with tiger seal, i think it would be up to the job of holding on a carbon arch just fine *wink*

Its gonna be interesting but i think bonding some brackets onto the underside of the arch and bolting them through the shell is the way to go, nothing visable then just means its going to take longer than normal to take them on/off when required.

No more nails is great stuff and joins nicely onto carbon fibre / firbe glass panels. Recomended by a friend and used it on the flip front for holding the wiring loom in place (can see it in the background of the pics)

if your up for bonding the brackets to the arch, you could try rubbing them back a bit on the underside and using a bit of epoxy or polyester resin (whichever they use as the resin in the carbon). IMHO that or some sort of seam sealer like tiger seal would look a bit smarter than no more nails, plus it comes in a tube like no more nails so its easy peasy to use. However nomorenails would defo be up to the job lol. Right, i gotta get ready for some serious drinking, good luck with whatever you choose, and let me know how you get on (pics too please).

AL

lol how many times can 1 person say nomorenails

no more nails

You will have to cut the front as Curley makes them far too big to allow for trimming.

This is not quite the right photo but shows you how i fitted my modified Curley type arches (mine are moulded from a modified set of curley ones)

cheers for the pic scruffy, looks good. I know i will have to trim the front to get them to fit i just didnt want to cut them where the hockey stick is for the flip front, want to keep them in one piece somehow if i can.

will have to do some thinking as i dont want any fixings showing on the outside of the car at all be it wheel arches, flip front or anything *wink*

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

I called Ian [Curley] before ordering a set of fibreglass Mig arches - I couldn't justify the cost of Carbon-showing-weave (although they look fantastic!) - I lost a Group 5 rear arch a few years back due to 'buffeting' from a lorry coming the other way on an A road.

Anyway! Having spoke to Mr. Curley, he said you can attach 'bits' to carbon fibre using fibreglass resin, as if the arches were a fibreglass set. As mentioned above, I'm sure no more nails will do the trick but I myself am going for hidden brackets attached using fibreglass resin, then bolted to the wings. Once I get new tyres on to line everything up that is....

Looking forward to seeing your completed effort!

ive never done any fibre glassing before but i spose there has to be a first time for everything. Fibre glassing the brackets on is the way to go i think as long as i can get the hang of doing it.

I attached mine like scruffys.

I used Rivnuts to attach arch to bracket, and a combination of rivits and nuts to attach bracket to car.

yep, get down to b and q and get one of those fibreglassing kits.

id then suggest making up some alloy brackets, rough the surfaces up, then use the resin to stick the brackets to the inside of the arch.

once dry, fibreglass some matting over the brackets and roberts your mothers brother!

you'll be able to impress the ladies that you have no nuts

How are you attatching the flipfront with no visible fixings minimad?

I am going to make some brackets that attach to the inside each A panel with 2 locating holes on each bracket, then bond a similar bracket to the inside of the flip front with 2 locating pins that will sit into the brackets with the holes on the a panels.

The flip front will then be secured down using the same bonnet pins that secure the bonnett up by the scuttle panel.

Hope that makes sense, it kind of does to me *smiley*, we will have to wait and see if it works or not so fingers crossed.

Horndean - Near Portsmouth

I araldited the brackets to the arch after roughing the surfaces up, then glassed over the top - simple!

Brackets are ally and the arch looks wicked on the car.
