What do you guys use for this?

afer doing a search i get the feeling that surprisingly the stuff from avonbar isnt up to much...? so what are my alternatives?

its obviously got to be reinforced to prevent it collapsing...and id preferably avoid the high cost of a bespoke silicone plumbing job.

how long is the std ducting off a metro? would it reach to the grill?

do you use zip ties or jubilee clips on it?

pics would be appreciated, and apologies for all the Q's

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

jubilee clips

std metty stuff would be fine if in good nick

merlin motorsport do some orange stuff

other option is use steel/alloy pipe and bits of silicon hose (best option)

*smiley*

Stuff from avonbar is OK but soon wears through if your not careful.

just had a quick look and this stuff seems to be the right ID, but £40odd!!

http://www.merlinmotorsport.com/product_in...roducts_id=4233

with me being a tight arse, wasnt thinking it would be all that much...

It would prob be cheaper ordering some more silicon hose off that place on ebay, ill have a rethink..

thats the same stuff avonbar sell *smiley*

Yup, is a bit pricey, some alloy tubing and silicon hose is certain the best option for sure.

Tip for the alloy tubing:

My mates a window/conservatory fitter, they use thin walled 50mm OD alloy tubing for supports/hand rails and stuff *wink*

perfect intercooler/filter piping!

another question, if your running the rad in the std position at the side, no flipfront so inner wings present, do you have to bring the ducting up over the top, and back down to the grill?

or is there room to squeeze it through at the bottom somewhere? cant picture one in my head though...

ive got a silicone 90deg bend on mine, then im using the normal brake ducting hose (upto 150deg), its holding up fine and considerably cheaper than the hi temp stuff

no room between the rad and bulkhead, nor between the rad and block.

Still tight with a front mounted rad!!!

Apologies for going on an on about this, but got nothing to do before dinner but weigh all this up...*wink*

It seems in most of the pics ive found, people seem to position their filters next to the wiper motor (bud666, wolfie, for example), right at the back for the rad (seemingly not good for cool air).

But... I know that the scuttle panel is a high pressure zone, and alot of guys run the back of their bonnets a little raised to let this air flow into the bonnet bay thus lowering temperature...

Now my question is:

Is it worth the hassle putting the filter near the grill or should i just leave it near the wiper motor and raise the back of the bonnet a bit?

from my mate, send me a pm if interested

im thinking for this year to move the wiper motor to give more space around the airfilter area, and then directing a cold feed into there

nic, ive done that on my rally car, just whip the motor and flexydrive thing out, and you can rotate the channel around its axis, cut a suitable hole for it to poke through into the cabin and bobs your mothers brother etc....
got pics here one sec

here is a picture of ours. you can just make out the airfilter at the end of the long snake going round the back of the plenum. this is an Avonbar pipe, so you can see how long it is. the Avonbar pipe is quality, although pricy.

I'm thinking of getting a frontmoubnted rad, so not sure where I'll move the filter to. It'll be too hot where it is with a rad infront.
