just a quick couple of questions. is there any need to upgrade the oil pump on a standard engine to a higher capacity turbo one, or will a standard one be up to the job? considering the pump will be supplying oil to both the turbo and pumping through an oil cooler in my case.
and secondly what sort of pressure is considered healthy? i seem to have the problem at the moment where the oil pressure starts off ok wen the engine is cold, but gradually decreases as the engine warms up. im running 10w 40 oil at the moment

think alot of people will recomend the turbo one from avonbar, but some say a decent standerd one is up to the job. im going to use the avonbar one as i dont think its worth the risk!

oil presure does drop of at it gets hotter as the oil gets thiner! a oil cooler should help prevent this.

im sure if you do a search theres loads of info about this sort of question.

If you have a turbo use the turbo pump. An oil cooler shouldnt effect the capcity needed as the oil simply passes through it before it gets to the rest of the engine. None gets 'used' as such

What oil pressure are you seeing ?
Around 25psi on idle when hot rising to around 50psi when revved is what your looking for.
I personally don't run an oil cooler.

I am running a std oilpump and an oilcooler, the pressure decreases to 20psi when hot but I never seen problems, i am running this setup for at least 10k now.
btw the oil i am using is 20w50, to reduce leakage towards the clutch.

Fitting a cheap oil pump is like getting open heart surgery done by you local health centre's junior nurse ...... don't do it ... the result is death.

I am personally open to trying different oil pumps bu the Avonbar one is without a doubt a quality item, if a little pricey! Then again what price life????

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

If your going to run an oil cooler do it with a thermostat in the line.

I have lost an engine in the past to oil that didn't warm up enough to work well due to a directly connected oil cooler and lots of short runs :(

My old 998 is holding 30psi at idle and over 50psi with revs at full temp. 20/50 oil

Using a synthetic will stop it dropping low when really hot but I have not looked into the use of synthetic with the gears and baulk rings, It has the reputation of being too slippy..

I will be using a cooler and thermostat on my turbo build as temps here in Philly get real nasty mid summer, not quite so important in the Lake District!!

use 20/50 millers cvt, i use a standard steel backed oil pump and works bloody well.
get about 35-40psi on tick over when hot and 55-60 on all revs.

i would say the standard turbo oil pump is the best, or failing that a good copy such as avonbar sell.

then use the correct oil, a high spec 20/50
