I've read that sand blasting will warp the metal panels (most point to heat, but that's a shed-load; it's the work-hardening of the surface that warps things). Best is to soda blast. However, I had very good luck stripping mine with an abbrasive wheel from 3M: http://www.drjing.com/Mini/BLOG/BareShell.htm. For a few hours' work, you too can have a bare shell! :) **************************************

If you get it acid dipped, it is a good plan to then get it electro galvenised. Obvoiusly this cost shed loads. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

There is a place that advertises in PPC that can do the whole job, dip, galv' coat. I'll get a price for a shell and post it up here ... be patient though MEGA busy at work at the moment! Every day is a school day ...........

Bead blasting is also an option, a little less harsh the grit blasting, as they use PET (plastic) regrind as the blasting medium.

Where i used to work (restoring 356's & early 911's) we used to get them bead blasted, never had any problems of panel distortion or anything like that |

Ok, the company is called surface processing ( www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk ) 01384 242010 I have rung them and for a Mini it would cost; Stripping £575 + VAT (£675.63) Etch primed and oven baked (spray coating so external only) £350 + VAT (£411.25) Electrophoretic (dipped) coating £750 + VAT (£881.25) The work they do is supposed to be brilliant and the electrophoretic coating should make the shell much more resistant to tin worm than anything else going BUT it's not cheap at £1556.88 for strip and coat!!!!!!!!!! Back to the manual stripping for me .... anyway if it didn't rust I'd have no fun replacing panels and respraying would I!!!! i got the same quote, i didnt think it would be quite this deer, the problem i have is that my car is being built to be abused, and id hate to spend all that money on the shell for it to be rolled on the first tracjday!!! no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Having mine done at the moment, alot less £ than has been quote above. He won't touch large panels as the media he uses is too tough.

i did a search on google in my local area for businesses and it came up trumps. About 10 places within 20miles of northampton and the closest was less than a 1/4 of a mile away from my house. I've seen the future and tbh its Pie
