Will somone make me some brackets that i can bolt onto the existing bonnet arms to make the rear raised a bit for cooling? I will pay obviously what you want, i am rubbish at making things wiht the tools i have :(

Other than that i wil get a big subaru bonnet vent if nobody makes me any, so its up to you!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Just un bolt the bonnet, then put one bolt on top of the hinge and the front one in the hole, will raise it up a treat *smiley*

Yep that works nicely, i just got hold of another mini turbo that had this setup but it also has a small strut going from the rear bonnet bolt down to the hinge (if that makes sense), guess that makes it a bit more secure.

Folks,
I'm afraid I don't get it. I tried to raise the rear of my bonnet based on what was said here, and yes it raised the rear of the bonnet, but it also severely limited the raised height, and seemed to make the bonnet catch operate poorly (if at all). Is there something I'm missing? A photo is always helpful..
Thanks.

At least he searched.

Having never done this mod I'm no expert, but is seems logical that the catch won't work and the bonnet will open less. Think of them as 'features' of the mod and it won't be so bad.

I amd personally of the opinion that this is a bad mod. It's debabtable how much effect it has owing to the airflow at the back of the bonnet being very turbulent. and I always imagine it'll endup with oily deposits all over the windscreen.

The ERA bonnet vent or a few holeds above the carb is all that should be needed IMO.

you will need to readjust the bonnet catch(one job i hate!!!) but it will work

And the limited the raised height is a feature as wil_h said

i got fed up of stuff getting wet so i got rid of it striate after doing it

tbh, i raised the back of my bonnet once to go to blackpool light switch on about 3 years ago it gave nothing but overheating probs on the motorway my screen didnt mist up though, i lowered it as soon as i got home (i had bonnet pins) didnt overheated again untill i fitted the one piece flipfront, i presume the air pressure in the engine bay escaped out the gap rather than the radiator/inner wing

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

i experimented with the aero dynamics of a proped bonnet on a clubman a few years ago.
i unbolted the hindges and tied the front to the subframe as well as using the latches at 45mph the back of the bonnet lifted an inch at 50 it was 6inches up.
the amount of pressure in there must make a fair bit of drag.
i run a 1inch prop and my windscreen deices when im driving at -3

Thanks all for the additional info. One good thing about raising the bonnet is it's free or cheap, and if all else fails, I can just put it back. Besides, I don't have the bollocks to cut my newly painted bonnet!
Cheers again.

I'm sure there was a pic somewhere showing that the area at the back of the bonnet sucked air in rather than air escaping.
