You can keep winding the boost up but at some point you meet the law of deminishing returns, ie. all the extra boost just goes to heat the charge and thus lower charge desity thus reducing the combustion efficiency.

In fact, its rather pointless on its own. Amen to THAT!!!! Big numbers impress chavs - the types of chavs that have no idea if a 12 sec 1/4 is good or bad... On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

And the sort that think a pod filter and associated sticker adds about 30-40bhp. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

the name of the game is to generate as much HP through as little boost as possible

As the guys said, get everything as efficient as possible first then turn the boost up.

I've run just over 30 psi, but can't get a clutch to cope with that much boost 16V project underway |

Yeah i know that the engine needs to be efficient. I was just wondering how high some nutter had cranked up the boost without his rings frying of head gasket making funny noises Back once again like a renegade master |

Mate had a huge Holset in his Mini. Really a pile of crap honestly. CR was reduced by machining the piston tops so that the pistons were 4 mm down in the bore at TDC. Then there was a locked dizzy to supply something like 20 degrees advance. All in all, the engine did not see any boost below 4000 rpm. Any std 1275 would blow the doors off ... until it came on boost. In an instant it hit past 1,5 bar. We then backed the wastegate settings to keep it around 1 bar because my mate had no idea what the engine spec was. I would imagine that judging the amount we had to adjust the wastegate we would have hit 2 bar easily. Absolute PITA despite the boost setting.

I have accidentally hit past 1,5 bar with mine (interesting to say the least) but kept it at 1 bar for years. pmsl, sounds like mine
Except I took 6mm off the top, and welded dizzy at around 24-28deg. My Cossie compressored T3 built boost rapidly around 36-4000rpm to 1.5bar then flew. I probably did see more at times, but that was steady readings. That said, I did try for more, and it didnt seem to want to make much more than that, so just left it there. 9.85 @ 145mph

Cricky ..... what is the difference in charge temps to be causing that? Or is the turbine backing up the exhaust preventing charge scavenging?
