In my part of the world - there is nothing regards inspections. Not even a yearly emmisions check...

After suffering a brake failure (rusted line) on my 1995 pickup, I've been going through it and changing all the lines, and flexi-hoses. Thought I'd change the rear springs aswell, as one had a cracked leaf...

And this is what I found on one of the spring hangers! It looked solid enough at first glance, but on chipping away the thick rust scale, this is all I effectivly had holding up one of my rear springs!

The new (factory) outriggers are 4.5mm thick steel. The thickest part on this corroded item has been whittled down to 3.5mm - and in the area where the three small holes are in a line, it's around 0.5mm thick all the way across!

I almost wish they would have MOT's, as my truck looks pretty clean compared to many others on the road. Scary to think how many dangerous vehicles are on the road!

oh - and this, and prepping / detailling my focus for selling is why I've done nothing to the mini for the past month.

Good news; Focus is hopefully sold.

So my Miller Dynasty 200DX inverter TIG is soon to be here!!!!! Then it's manifold and clutch work on full steam ahead!

Some states do have yearly inspections - and ones like California have (I believe) bi-yearly emmissions checks...

Mi is unlikely to bring this in anytime soon...

There are no MOTs in most of the world. Infact in OZ there is no MOT and insurance isn't compolsary. That's life over there! But in all honesty you never hear much about accidents being caused by poor maintainence and lack of regular check ups. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen though.

LOL and people say minis rust *laughing*

Granted there is a whole lot less metal in a mini in relation to a yank pick up, but id recon on there being the same amount of rust *laughing*

I thought emissions in a lot of the US were far stricter than the UK ??

Surprising there is no form of roadworthiness inspection in the US though....

Maybe ya should move back home !!!

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

My girlfriend is from South Africa and they only have inspections at the time of sale ........ You could buy a vehicle new and 40 years later .......

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Isle of Man

There's no MOT over here on the island, which can have its pro's and con's.

Ive bought quite a few bangers over the years, and literally every one on the island has had either shonky handling, or cant drive or brake in a straight line, if the brakes even work.

After buying a couple of motors on the mainland you can instantly tell the difference, as theyve been made to replace bushes and bearings over the years rather than just let the car gradually fall apart in peace.

In that respect I think MOTs are a good thing, but Im glad they havent got them over here..

oh...and thats a nice piece of FeO3 Dave!

Here in PA there are inspections and emmisions yearly. Emissions is a case of turning on the ignition and seeing if the check engine light goes out. If it does it's a pass.

In Delaware (the state just south of Philly) the cars are tested every 2 years but its mostly a joke, as long as the lights work, the horn beeps and the wipers work its a pass, They do make you stop sharply on a brake tester which is a bit of road that makes sure all 4 wheels are actually contributing to the stop. Last time with the mini they were all amazed that I actually managed to keep all 4 wheels on the thing!!

However they do test emissions from 1968 onwards with a probe, but only using the check engine light on modern cars. I used to have problems with my 1968 TR. I had to retard the ignition to get it through, then advance it back in the parking lot so it wouldn't overheat on me!

No such probs with the mini, it matured on the boat and is a 1966...

Oh and get this... Annual road tax (including above test) is $20
