Does everyone on here with a water cooled T2 connect up the water pipes? I know kean does on his but i'm sure some people have said they don't bother.

Just wondered if it'll reduce the life of the turbo without em connected thats all, the car will be my daily drive running 10psi and 15 on track.

We don't run them on ours, but then we do no mileage. On a road car I think it is worthwhile.

I ended up disconnecting mine and runnign with no cooling. I reckon this is actually more for OEM's to cover the idiots who rag their engines, then shutdown without cooldown...

i think i'm going to leave mine disconnected at first cos i'm going to have enough stuff to make over xmas anyway without messing with extra plumbing aswell.

I do know a man with a thermal camera though so i might ask him nicely to see if me and kean can get our cars out on a run together then have a look at the turbo's with the camera and see if there's any difference in temp between the 2. i know it wont be overly accurate or anything but could give an idea if somethings majorly wrong.

sorry to disagree Dave OeM's are rarely see the sort of stress you are putting on your turbo, dyno , high boost long charges......overspeeding
really that's an easy job to make,is they are present plumb these cooling lines,
even if you're allowing your turbo to cool down, the oil which is inside the turbo will see very high temp the water will help to keep it cool , and not only when turned of ,imagine the temp inside the core when your turbine wheel need inconel to resist the 1000° temp few MILLIMETERS from this you have the bearing and oil,
take a cooking plate put some oil inside, wire the gas and see....
then if you have an air cooled core don't panic it just have less life in it and will be less compliant with excess, and I recon that some are putting so much on their turbo that they'll fail long before oil cooking from other damages.

the reason i connected mine is as fab says ,but also i thoguht there could be a deff reduction in the compressor wheel temp ,and therefore its a form of precooling !!!

I'll be attaching the coolant connections on my T2. It's pretty warm here most of the year. As a result, I don't need a heater. So the coolant connection for the heater will be used for the turbo instead!

a usefull tip, is to connect a water pump in the turbo cooling circuit drived by a temp switch, easy to make , and their is plenty in the scrap yards ( volvo turbo, think some ssabs, lot of renaults have a secound électric pump to continu to cool the engine when the engine isn't running.
