Does anyone know where I could get the taper of a crankshaft reground by a few thou?
Im trying to salvage mine after welding the flywheel to it.
OK I might sound a bit cheap but its a f*****g good crank otherwise which cost a lot of money.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Eh, I dont know how to, nor do I have a camera.
I thought you'd be the first to answer though Carl.

Basically, a bit of the flywheel material was left on the taper, I've had it on a lathe to turn it off, but it has formed a hard spot and so a new flywheel wont sit on it correctly so it needs grinding.
I've arranged to have a new flywheel made to suit a reground taper if I can get it done.
Do you think you could help with the crank Carl?

if you dont grind lots of you can still use a std flywheel, just put it in the lathe and remove a little bit fomr the backside where it will interfere with the primary otherwise. and just put the crank in the lathe and remove a little bit on the nose so you have half a mm betweeen the edge of the flywheel and the end of the taper

This was the idea, but the flywheel material that was left on the crank formed a hard spot, so when I turned it it left a slight bump so it does need a grind.

Paul, User Dangerous on here will probably fix it for a few beer tokens - he's done metal spraying and grinding for guys on here in the past - And i know he asked me what the crank taper angle was around 2 months ago - presumably for a similar job?

Metal spraying? Meaning depositing metal, or something else? I don't think I've heard of that one before.
