if fitting a different engine like say for instance a toyota starlet turbo engine would you be able to use megasquirt to run it, would it be able to use the toyota sensors, i know the crank sesor would need changing.

cheers

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

No reason why not

Thats why Megasquirt is so popular

Why wold you need to change the crank sensor?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

thought megasquirt needed a 36-1 type sensor like megajolt?

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

edis needs the 36-1, you wont be using edis with the starlet i imagine..

Thats if you are going to use Fords EDIS.

What ignition systen does the Starlet engine have??

The Later MSII is a better choice as its capeble of firing the dis coils directly. Though you have to weigh up the other components of the EFI system that you want to run as to what you can run with MSII. Decoding of crank sensors other than 36-1 is possible IE 36-2, 36-4 and so on.

Thats whay its so universal. Its not the be all and end all.

TBH im more tempted by the VEMS with onboard wideband lamda, coil on plug and IACV drivers. Though some one said its a closed shop on coding?? Dunno.

As i understand - all it needs is a pulse - wether off a single, twin or individual coil system...

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Megasquirt will be fine with the whole Toyota set up except the coil, that is no problem as there are plenty of others. I can't remember why the toyota coil is a problem but I know it is ...... certainly the one of the 4AGE motor. On my kit I have a Ford coil pack but all other sensors are Toyota. Had problems with the throttle pot (alpha N running) but it is an easy swap or a balast resisitor to put the base resistance in the window for megasquirt will get it running.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

MSI can fire the edis coilpack directly aswell with the same modifications required to make it work with msII. tis what im running on my mini. Tho will be swapping to the MSII -extra codes when they mature a bit more!

Megasquirt will run any engine, and all the information is there to adapt it to any sensors you may come across, however there is plenty of info on substituting sensors and triggers for more "compatible" ones if the standard items proove a hastle.
The only downside to theis universal-ness is the sheer volume of information stored on the forums and manuals about every sensor/car/actuator and setup, it can be hard tryign to find exactly what you want, but its all there :)

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
