Can anybody give me any more information on this turbo?

All I know so far is that it is a T2 core with 4 bolt flange, 0.35 AR and originally from a Montego Turbo.

Anything else, especially trims and a compressor map would be appreciated.

Oh the only other thing I know is I have one and the core is not cracked by the wastegate!!

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i'm guessing its from a montego turbo diesel then? If so i have one the same with no cracks etc but decided it looked a bit small for what i wanted *happy*

The petrol versions used a T3.

Ian, does look a little small next to metty T3.

I am looking for low lag and 12 psi max ... only thing that concerns me is that it might strangle to engine at the top end.

Any info greatfully recieved.

This website has the best info on what turbos are fitted to what cars:

The T2 is very small compared to the T3, but is considered by many here to be better suited to the 1275 for all round performance.

I believe this is a 50-trim compressor? If so - it's the same as the R5GT turbocharger. You won't find a less-laggy turbo or one that falls so neatly in the sweet-spot at 12psi anywhere else.

A compressor map was uploaded recently to the TM mainframe.

I guess I am going to have to strip it and measure the turbine to make sure ....

Hmmm - seems this might be a 60-trim compressor!

All T2 wheels are 48mm OD

50-trim is 34mm dia
55-trim is 35.6mm dia
60-trim is 37.2mm dia

T25 wheels are many different sizes.

The turbine is a little tricky to measure as it's an odd number of blades - but I recall they're all 47mm OD...

If you could strip it, count the blades and measure the turbine and compressor trims - it'd be a usefull addition to the TM information list :)

Will do Dave, not sure when though ... LOL.

looks like I might have to go with a T3 to start with, when I get the adapter plate to fit the T2 I'll start to rebuild it and fit it on a spare manifold. Got to get the car finsihed first ......

I'll take the wheel into work and get the standards room to measure it ... LOL do a better job than I could at home and it will only cost me a coffee.

with desapointing , you should look for an other T2 , 60trim isn't as efficient for your application,
what about max rev, a t2 0.35/50 trim will rev happily to 6000 and up and is simply as laggy as a superchargers :)
whatever it can't be worst than the genuine t3 .

Shame .... can't seem to find a decent T2 from an R5GT ... like a gold plated hens tooth in a pile of rocking horse poo it would seem :(

This would definately be a good unit for a higher revving engine; but at that point the exhaust turbine would probably be a little restrictive - so you'd lose out...

how 's your turbine hsg?no crack?
could you loose it from the turbo to mesure exactly turbine inducer, exducer, and tip heigh?
if your hsg is compatible I can furnish a good core with the right comp hsg and turbine, can't do more as for the moment it's more and more difficult to find uncracked turbine hsg for 5 gt, the main problem is that cranking up the boost without setting fuelling to suit increase exhaust temps ,and guess how many are tightening their waste gate without preocupping!........99%?

edited for gramatical purpose *oh well*

Fab,

thank you for hte offer, much appreciated!

I will strip it an measure the wheels as soon as possible. I'll post up the details in this thread.
I was hoping that somebody had already got some info on the unit. Not a problem ..... just got 100s of other jobs more pressing than the turbo as I still need the adapter plate etc ... and the car for it to go in.

roger , its a 1988 montego or 89 meastro or montego 2 litre diesel turbo , as dave says a 60 trim comp , and it has a .8 to .87 bar wastegate on it this pressure should give .38mm rod movement so id expect it to give a touch more in running say .95 bar , its a .35 a/r turbine housing ..the part no for the wheel on the turbine side i couldnt find , but i d imagine it would be quite small ,as the only specs on the 2 litre monty are for 80 bhp , which is a low revving high low down boost sort of engine i think .but i may be wrong on the power .
regards
robert.

Cheers Robert.

I am going to give it a try anyway but am going to get one form a R5 GTT just in case. This one will be good enough to mock up on and it may well work out ok too.... I'm not after big bannanas on this motor, just some bulking up of the mid range...
