Custom exhaust manifold

i am about to make my own exhaust manifold, as seen in the
"broken gearbox" section, my options are relocation of the engine and steering rack or a customized manifold.
Now, the question is: Do the 3 exhaust pipes have to be equal length? and howfar can I put the turbo unit away from the head?
Any Help is appreciated.
