took the head off my new engine for inspection at the weekend and found some interesting things.. the head is defonatly a turbo head, with double valve springs and wider exhoust valve stems.
the engine number is 12HA85, wich i think comes back as a 1275 MG..
nothing i have found i feel is too worrying, the bores seem verry clean with no scratches.. the pistons are still in one piece, lol there is a lot of build up of "sut" on the pistons tho...

the head ..

when i took the plugs out, cylinders 1 and 2 look verry light and dry, 3 and 4 were verry black.

the carb has a lot of "blackening" towards the cylinders and is clean facing towards the turbo, i really cant think what might have caused this?

over all what i found i am so far pretty happy with, the gasket was intact and was a bk450 (are these what MG used as standard?)

also the pistons have a B on them, that is all i can find, does it mean anything? they do have a quite a large dish on them, is there any way to tell if they are turbo ones?

i do have a feeling that it was an MG engine with a turbo head and bits put on then put back in a metro turbo, if so i can work around it but so far looks like no damage was caused, thankfully:)

any ideas/opinions would be great :)

Thanks! Dan

no news is good news hehe. any ideas on how to tell if its a turbo engine or not? i know most dont agree with using an old engine, but i am going to be rebuilding another engine whilest this ones being used as a bit of a tester. as i dont need it as an every day car anymore i am in a good enough position to do this now:)

thanks. Dan

the carb i rebuilt tonight was just as stained inside, it comes off dead easy with a squirt of carb cleaner.

i dont 'need' a daily driver now as i walk to work (5 mins) however i do need a daily driver to drive to the garage to work on the non daily drivers, how sad...LOL

Of course you can. It's just a question of pouring it into the tank.

What Nic? It's very easy to pour MrMuscle in your tank. Whether you should do it that's a totally different question :)
