been changing the front pads on a mates jeep cheroke today, done the first side no problems, then attempted to take the other wheel off but the locking wheel nut key slipped and would not grip, its the type with 4 small pins...have tried to tap it around with a hammer and an old screwdriver with no luck, also tried applying some heat with no luck, going to try tommorow with a chisel to attemp to split the nut apart....any other ideas? ““A turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.”” - Jeremy Clarkson

twat an old socket on the rascal normally works unless some halford jockey has gunned them up to tight. no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

You can buy sockets that have teeth on the inside, a decent machanic should have a set. Other than that go with the twatting a socket on approach! 1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.

You can get a proper tool for this, its a socket with left hand thread in it, tap it onto the nut to start it, then you need a windy gun to wind it on, it then undoes the nut for you.

the local theives use a gator grip (socket with loads of pins in which snuggly fit around the nut then voila)

yeh quite right there normally these things are stolen to order and by people who actually can perform the job with military prescision. lots of homework is normally done firt then they hit the cars I have normally found they work in teams, a driver, front axel team and rear axel team. the wheels can be taken in a matter of minutes regardless of locking kits. the best thing to have would be 4 x wheel clamps (good ones) but lets face it who could be arsed to fit em ??? any ho we digress !!! Adam why not do what tom says save ureself heartache drive it to a grage and pay the mechanic 5 minutes of work with his windy gun not cost you much bud ?
