Evening all

Hope everyone has had (still having?) a merry xmas day :) We have, baby's first xmas - fantastic! *happy*

Spotted these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...:MEWA:IT&ih=005
and wondered if they would be suitable for an arden 8 port head in place of Weber DCOE 40s

Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated

Cheers

Neil

they may be a bit on the small side maybe, as its from a 600 cc engine?

And a single 1 3/4" SU is bigger ???

On a boosted engine, you dont need big TB's

ONE of those bike engines would be more than adequate for a boosted A-series. 2, ie one for each port, would be huge.

After all...is anything bigger than the actual port inlet itself needed ???

Just look at the power created by the 600cc engine, the power is derived from the torque, and the torque comes driectly from the amount of air consumed. They will be fine for a turbo mini, just watch for shaft sealing.

I concur about them being a tad on the steep side though, i got my CBR600rr TB's for £35 with an eight injector setup.

Gxier 600 K1 bodies are the most sought after because they are truely individual and can be respaced to suit, most are 2 pairs of bodies these days.

Also remember that these are 38mm IIRC and the biggest choke size I have ever seen to fit 40's is 36mm so I don't think you will run out of air!!!!

It has been a while since I had Gixer bodies apart but SOME, not all, have a groove in for an O-ring to seal against boost. Not hte best solution as they wear but cheap and easy to change when they do. Most times though you can drift out the lip seals and refit new ones the opposite way around so they seal against boost not vac'.

They are massively over priced though, but then again it's supply and demand as the K4 onwards and many other bikes use a second, ECU controlled, butterfly in each body to help gase speed at low revs and loads, obviously they then need removing and the holes plugging for any no standard use.

I have a tabel somewhere showing what size bodies each bike had... will post after my trip to the misses's sisters ...... HELP!!!!!! Brat alert .....

(am I the only one who thinks it is unreasonable for me to put the sheel on a trailer and welder in the boot so I can entertain myself?????)

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

If this is for forced induction, have you concidered a plenum and a single, large throttle body??

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Another downside to big TB's

Throttle control. Say you have a 25mm TB, driving around town, small openings let a small amount of air in. Makes for nice control under foot.

Change that to a 50mm TB. a 10% TB opening may allow as much air in as a 50% open 25mm TB ( plucking figures from the air, but you get what I mean ? )

Now, an A-series isnt goint to make huge amounts of power, but do consider what fitting large TB's can do to throttle control.

A huge TB can make it feel like you are going WOT, yet you are only touching the throttle. Makes it horrible to drive.

Dont size them bigger than the really need to be, and on a forced induction car, they dont need to be big at all.

Thanks for all the comments. I have found some cheaper ones but not commited any cash just yet.

I'm not planning for a turbo, that may happen when the 1380 block is worn out. I have a 1293 block and I think I can get a plenum made for a reasonable cost, but I will need pistons and an exhaust manifold, which I guess will be £££££. Power wise I'm still not convinced 8 port turbo is worth the effort, but if I can afford it it may be interesting to see if it can be done.

Good point about the choke sizes :) I was looking for something to use with the megasquirt in place of the 40's. I like the webers, but realisticaly they are a pain in the arse.

Cheers

I am also thinking single larger throttle body (try VW golf one as it's two stage which will help the low throttle / light load situation).

I am actually going to consider taking the individual throttles off the BMW k 8v I am going to use on my turbo lump in fav' of this setup!!
