I had an accident at work.......
A colleague and I were tidying up the panelshop and had to throw out a complete exhaust system, so it was long and heavy and needed 2 of us to get it into the steel skip outside.
I lifted my end onto the edge of the skip but before I had moved my hand my colleague pushed his end in.
The result was my left finger being crushed between the silencer and the skip.
This managed to roll all the flesh off my left index finger down to the 2nd knuckle and snap the tip of the bone clean off.
Needless to say I swore.
Luckily I had thick leather weding gloves on. When I took them off it was just bone and shredded flesh.
This was at 9 am thursday. I went straight to hospital and had surgery so unfortunately I couldnt get any pictures to show you. I had to have 9 injections in total, 2 hours of surgery, a shit load of stitches and I have a pin stiking out of the end of my finger at the moment holding it together which will be removed in 3 weeks.
I was discharged at 6 pm friday.
Bear in mind that I am probably the most squeemish person in the world, just typing this I am feeling pretty ill again, so its all quite nasty.
When I get the pin taken out, Ill try to get some pictures done to show you. I did a proper job of it, now I cant do anything for 6 weeks so thats an extra long christmas holiday.
If anyone hurts themselves badly like this, I recommend nitrous oxide highly. I had 3 ring block injections in the figer to numb the pain, they didnt work...nitrous did though.
Just imagine how it would have been if I didnt have the gloves on....

Hope you all had an excellent Christmas

Paul

Here is how it looked today when I had the stitches taken out.
They have done a brilliant job of rebuilding it.

Nasty*frown* had my fair share of pain paul

i personally dont use gloves as it gives you a sense of false security!

thinking you are protecting your pinkis

any slight scrapes ar knocks you ignore them and over time they get a little more & more, you keep ignoring it until one day bingo

all the accidents i have seen and experienced are using gloves,

the above is my conclusion although may be not welcome

gloves are ok for hedge pruning and gundge jobs.

I felt that pain before..! It bloody hurts and being your finger it just puts your complete hand out of action. Just a trip to the bog is a right pain.

I was working for a touring car team when I was a lad. And we used large compressed air cylinders for the buzz guns and air jacks. And setting everything up was a right job I hated.

Anyway, we used to strap them up for safety. But this one occasion we didn’t or just plain forgot.

And when someone tried using the buzz gun the bottle fell. but I saw it go and tried to safe it. But only managed to slow it’s the fall. And when it hit the ground it had my right hand middle finger under it. Which just exploded...?

So I sympathize with your pain.

Get well soon and make a friend to help wipe your bum.

I drill holes in everything..!

WOW! Thankyou all for your well wishes.
Its feeling a lot better now, I havent had to take pain killers for a couple of days now.
To aid the boredom of the next 6 weeks I went out and bought a 42" plasma TV, home cinema system and a digital camera, so Ill be able to post pictures on here soon if I need to.
Thanks again
