Hi there, newby here *wink*

I've got a '74 Austin 1100 that I've decided to turbo *happy*

I've got fed up of over priced 1275cc engines on eBay, so decided that I'd just 'do' my old engine instead.

I'm going to get one of those Mirage Motorsport manifold kits, the last thing I want to do is to cut a big hole in the shell and loose the heater!
On my to-get list are a 12G295 head (£100 from mini bitz) an intercooler, and an MG type camshaft.
I'm going to (hopefully) reuse my old pistons, but I'm going to get their crowns ceramic coated so they don't melt *wink* and might have the exhaust valve shafts coated to (is this worthwhile, or should i just get some A+ valves?)

I'm planning on fitting a T25 turbo, a T2 would be great but the supply of good s/hand ones round here seems to have dried up.

I'm going to the scrap yard tomorrow to get a turbo charger, can anyone suggest witch car to get one off?
I was told that the 2.0 Saab 9000s come with a T25 with a built in wastegate, witch sound good to me as the yard has one of these in......................but will it be suitable for my application?

Also, what other problems/issues are there with turbo-ing a non A+ engine?
And will a high capacity/flow oil pump from an A+ fit?

Thanks guys

Not very sunny swanage

Dealing with things in order.....

you can still keep the heater with the t3, just needs to be moved forward a little bit.

12g295 head, do a search as there has been considerable discusion about them in the past comparing them with 940 etc..... either way for christs sake dont pay £100 for one!! search ebay, or put up a wanted ad on here, ive got one in the shed somewhere if you get desperate..... actually come to think of it youve already got a 295 head on your engine surely?!?!?

getting pistons cermaic coated will be horrendously expensive to do properly, (The company i work for does it, and the material is bloody extortinate, so even i cant get it done cheap!!!) personally i would just use stainless valves or whatever most people on here use, (again a search will likely come up trumps..... personally i use standard valves, but i think im in the minority... cant remeber for certain)

search on turbo sizes many many thngs have been said about t2 v t25 v t3 so do a little reading and try and decide what ytou think would be best for you and what you want to use it for.....

2.0 saabs were fitted with three different types of turbos, (trust me on this one, i found out the hard way!!) do a littel search on google to find out which one you need!!!! (some were t3 definately, and two types of t25, all on the 2.0...... stupid eh...)

hth....

Pete

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

HYaving never fitted a turbo to an 1100 (car, not engine) I don't know whether body mod's would be needed with the Metro manifold. Surely there is more room under the bonnet of an 1100 than a Mini?

I agree with Pete, a T25 on a small bore will be too much. The compressor has a chance of being a good size, but the turbine will be way too big.

A R5 T2 or a GT15 (although there are 3 tyopes of these, and not all ideal) would be much better.

The only problem with the A rather than the A+ is the drop gear bearings, which just aren't as strong.

Yea, after a bit of resurch, the T25 will just cause mega lad before thrusting into a wall at high speed *wink*

A T2 would be a better idea, i'll see what I can find in the scrapyard tomorrow.

As for space, infront of the engine, there is loads more room than a Mini, but IIRC there's fractionly less room behind, so a Metro cast manifold is a HUGE no-no. I don't mind canting the engine over slightly, but cutting a hole in the shell will cause some real probs in an 1100 shell.

Load of room for a HUGE intercooler tho *wink*
