It certainly is ......

It is important to remember that those results were generated using an ECU with both knock sensing (timing adjustment to allow it to run near the edge of detonation) and a mass airflow meter in the inlet so that it could run very tight control over fueling.

The knock sensing is something we might be able to impliment if using an ECU to manage the ignition.

Also if using EFI then an ECU running a fast acting oxygen sensor could provide adequate fueling control.

Unfortunately with a carb and dizzy you are stuck with one tune and that has to be to suit the fuel you can get wherever the car drives, for example if you do a lot of track days your better off tuning for normal pump fuels (Shell / BP etc.) than the Tesco's stuff as you might not be able to find any near the track. Same goes for cars that do lots of motorway miles .... won't always be able to find a Tescos that has the 99 RON fuel.

The latest version of V-power form Shell is also 99RON and BP have 101/102 RON fuel at VERY few spots in the UK so there are alternatives.

IMHO if your going to have a car set up close to the edge then take it wth a tank full of normal pump premium "performance" fuel (normally 97 RON) as you can get that in 95% of UK towns.........

Hopefully though soon MS2 will give us both knock and fast oxygen sensing and code for 5 porters ....

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Roger, Appreciate all the points you made but a free 10% power increase over 97 ron is too good to miss.
I understand a carb / distributor set up is very limited but a Megajolt can switch ignition maps on the fly can't it?
This could take care of the ignition side to enable safe running if higher octane fuel can't be found.
How long do you reckon it will be for the 5 port code as I would dearly like to run injection and ignition from MS2.

Dave
