No offence meant , but i`ve been thinking again .Sorry no stories this time.

Although chasing the porrshee box... was interesting and rewarding when i went passed...man was he surprised ..

No i was thinking about class D changes ....as so many people are putting different heads on the A series engine , so they are not the original 5 ports/8 valve heads, couldn`t we have another class for these .
I know we change the turbo`s , manifolds etc but we are still running with the A series engine.

What are your thoughts guys for next year?*tongue*

Appart from the bumper cars and beer, vodka and redbull ......

I know , i know im sorry , it just makes me grin !!!

Good luck trying to convince the BMC of that.... Only reason they made a RWD class was because the edwards familly started throwing their toys out of their pram.
Don't expect that to ever happen again.

When is Avon 07? Sorry a bit OT but wondering as it's close to me (not as close as before I moved) and would like to meet a few people there.

No chance of the misses car being on the strip though ........ quite apart from the fact that she WOULD brake it I find the whole thing of drag racing a bit dull ... where are the corners???? LOL

Would still be great to see the cars and talk to the people in the paddock....

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Herefordshire

second or third week of july

my main concern is with the class i, youve got hybrid minis such as a 1.6 vauxhall against a spaceframe 2.0xe, that should be resorted into road legal and not classes

i know what your saying but how many 16v turbos are actually gonna be at avon 07? i dont think it is viable to run another class not yet anyhow.

OK then so here's an idea; why don't we offer a turbominis.co.uk cup for the fastest 12G940 headed mini in class D??

I think there is always a 'bragging rights' thing to be had; but anyone who assumes a 16v head will always be quicker than a 5-port is very wrong of course...

Class D is for anything with a turbo or charger.

last year there were people with fibreglass shells, another had slick tyres and lots and lots that dont have tax or MOT so are not road legal

you can run what you like in D class or for that fact any class because they dont check and dont care as long as they get there money.

if you ask me class D should be steel shell minis with a series engines (turbo/ supercharged) that have tax, mot and insurance

well thats my first post this year and it should upset alot of people here

I think as shed does. All A-series roadgoing classes should be steel shelled (after all a GRP shelled mini is not a mini, just a kit car, like a GTM).

Should all be on road tyres too.

However, tax MOT and insurance are irrelavent though.

tax, mot and insurance are important as you need these to be road legal.

i drive my car to the event and normaly drive home.

so many cars are trailered to and from the event and many are pure race cars that have not seen the road in years. the only reason these people enter D class is because they wont win there proper race car class so they cheat.

you know who you are and i know it wont stop you this year

my hat goes off to Matt woods as last year he drive to the event and raced with a car full of crap and still got 3rd

I can see your point, but as far as I'm concerned as long as the car is in the spirit of being a road car, that's what matters. i.e. road tyres and lights and no gas.

I don't see that driving it there is important. Whether it is legitimately road legal or not.

Also, with the 'rules' as they are no-one is cheating IMO. no-one was using gas, all cars had road legal tyre and whether they had an MOT or not they essentially could have got one. This is after all a competition and everyone likes to win. Dedication's what you need, well that and just enough cash to have your mini as a second car so you can compromise it's road manners to make it super fast in a straight line.

Steel shell is the important bit to me.

Steel shell and road-legal (road use) tyres for me. Anything else, and it's pretty much open season.

I don't care if it has a tax disc & MOT or not; so long as the stuff is in there that would 'technically' allow it to be fully functional on the road (ie indicators, wipers, etc) then that's enough for me. I don't like seeing (or hearing) about laughing gas bottles under the passenger seat however....

I also drove my mini to-and-from Avon, and only a few times didn't drive it home. But, that was a 'personal' satisfaction thing for me; kind of summing up the car I'd built and that I wanted to use it more than on the track - it was also a testament that i'd built it for endurance rather than ballistic horsepower.
Others didn't feel the same about their minis, and that's fine by me.

It's even better when / if you beat them or give them a good run for their money; especially when it's halfway through Sunday's racing and you open your boot for a check-over whilst in the fire-up lane and realise that you've been racing both days with your trolley-jack in the boot... *laughing* *laughing* *laughing*

Final thought though, Having a van - gives one advantage in taking stuff to Avon with you. Trying to fit a tent, barbeque, whatever in the back/boot of your typical mini with bucket seats securely bolted to the floor isn't that easy... Give some consideration to that before derising folks too much. :)

And the famous Flanigan Bar would never fit in the back of a mini, then where would we be? *wink*

Dave you got me wrong. there is in my mind cheating going on in that there was D class cars with slick full race tyres and there was another with a fibreglass shell.

the rest is a very gray area. i understand that for reliability and space some people have to trailer there cars, and thats fine. but D class does say road legal, not "could almost be road legal as long as the MOT man has a white stick"

the easy way to see if people comply with the wording of the group would be to check they are road legal

as i said before it doesn't matter any way because you can run what you like, the british mini club dont check and its all done on trust

at the end of the day i think alot of people just want to see what they can do in the car they have spent ££££ and time on building.
imo i think that drag racing is boring, but round a track is much more interesting, and i recon that would prove the fastest mini/driver much better.
im going to go to avon park (once my mini is done) purly to see what i can do and see what other people can do, not to try and beat everyone!
i would want to do alot more trackday events than drag strip events but thats just my personal preferance.

if people feel the need to cheat then let them, but they will know deep down they arnt the better minis, drivers!

cheers
