I spent a lot of time last nite reading all the posts on megajolt set ups. I think it sounds a good item, with many of you really rating it. I am happy with the instalation of it, that in its self is simple enough. but after looking on their website and seeing the screen shots, frankly it scares the sh** out of me!!!

In my line of work, Im skilled at engineering practice and also electrical work, but when it comes down to all the pc tapping and technical wizzardry I'll be the first at the front of the que screaming I dont understand!!!

I would like some honest answers from people who, either are in the boat as me, or have used it, on how idiot proof this system is to use.

Many thanks
Shane.

im in a similar position, at the minute im just waiting on the cylinder head for my NA engine, then its time to fire it up.

Im gonna use an aldon red to get it running, set the idle and bed the cam in etc, but once the ive got it roughly set up on the traditional dizzy im plugging the jolt straight in.
Ive got the edis bits all sussed and wired in ready, so it should be a simple swap over, just plug the jolt in so to speak, but im a bit aprehensive over what software to use, the mapping etc.

As its NA I was going to basically copy the aldon's 2d map to get me going, then tweak it at different MAP sites.

Bought a haynes book the other day, called Engine Managment, it was quite biased towards the Emerald ecu, but cleared a few general bits and bobs up and also covers carb'd setups in quite good detail.

install the kit and get someone to set it up for you then (for example moi lol)!

My kits come with a base map so they are initially plug and play and have the same advance curve as the std turbo distributor has :)

im rubbish at computers and its a piece of piss, honest.

download the software, easy enough.
all you do is put in your figures in the boxes i.e your map, rpm and what figure you want your timing to be and click update config and it puts it on your megajolt. its really that easy.

if you dont really really know what to set your timing to either borrow a safe map off somebody or do what i did and just put the same figure in all the boxes ( i think i put 23 degrees, but check this is a safe setting before using it) same as a fixed dizzy. just whilst i ran it in then i let the rolling road guy do the rest.

its easier than downloading and posting pictures

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

As Carl says.

The only thing I'll add is it makes life MUCH MUCH easier if you have an older laptop that has a proper serial port. Of all the problems I have heard of people not being able to connect to the megajolt most involve using a serial to USB converter. I have an old Sharp laptop borrowed off Neil8p and this allows a straight plug in and off you go.

Shropshire.

Carl, dont think its the hardware thats the problem, its the transfer rate of the info, you can have problems when stepping between the different conectors. *wink*

That is a huge load off my mind, thanks guys! Im glad there are a few of you also in the same boat!

I really like the fact that with this set up, cost wise it doesnt really cost more than what I paid swiftune for a tailored aldon yellow dizzy for my 998, and its adjustable!!!

AxelF2003, I didnt realise the kit you offer came with the std dizzy advance curve programmed, can you confirm your prices and contents please, am very interested, would rather pay a regular forum user my hard beer tokens than some other monkey lol!

How do people feel about sharing thier maps, can understand if they are reluctant to if they have spent money hand over fist!having it developed on the rollers!?

Shane.
