I had to modify my hi-los to get the car low enough.

3mm off the cone is about an inch, so they don't need much modding.

They will settle a bit though annyway.

ive fitted a set on mine and have wound the hi-los right down, hopefully once the engine is plumbed in and i get it out on the road they will settle down.

You need to remove material on the adjuster end, but you'll also need to remove material from the big bolt. If not it will stop on the cone when fully wound in.

Leave the trumpet untouched on the cone end.

Just as a point of reference the Ratio of metal removal to suspension height change is 1:3 at the front and 1:5 at the rear. It's slightly different at the front if you use Hydrolastic top arms but I don't know what the change is.
