The reason why this question gets aked alot is because there is no answer, or more acuratley there are a million answers.

I've never seen two turbo Minis with the same intercooler setup.

I basically went to my local scrapyard (with a bit of knowledge about what made a good intercooler) and searched their shelves for half an hour til I found something that did three things:

1) It would fit
2) It was in good nick
3) It was a reasonable design.

R5 and RST intercoolers fit the above criteria, I used to use an R5 cooler but blew it to pieces.

Was that too much waffle?

The Series 2 escort one is a cracking intercooler - really efficient for its size. It would be pretty hard to fit with a dizzy in place however unless you modified it (assuming a round-nose).
The R5 one will be very hard to fit and make work properly.

ive fitted a diesel shogun intercooler to mine ive mounted it under the servo above the gearbox pretty much in line with the inner wing, it was a very tight squeeze and it would never fit behind the grill!
ive cut the inner wing out a bit and the intercooler had a fan and cowel on it so i removed that and modified it to fit inthe wheel arch and duct a bit more air through.
ive not wired the fan in yet( dont know what temp the fan switch in the intercoller works at) and on a warmish day i measured my intake air temp at the plenum and it was 32c max at about 6psi boost. i admit its a touch laggy but not to bad.
so like wil says there is no answers id say go scrappy see whats about also the scrappys are good for collecting hoses too.

p.s i think i should have fitted one a bit smaller and put it behind the grill *tongue*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

a small intercooler in direct airflow is much better than a huge intercooler with low airflow

i suppose the prob with a big cooler is lag so if i were to fit another id go with a small one
i tend to buy and fit on impulse then think later *tongue*
