I dont know that lucky is the right word, we only got 3 racing tracks in Norway :( But the luck bit is that Rudskogen is just 30 min away :)
Yep, it is a lot of nice videos from that track, nearly all of them are from a meating called Gatebil wich collects all the best cars in Scandinavia and 20000 visitors :)

Is the transmission as 'agricultural' as some journo's say, or is it that they've got used to the super-smooth shifting Getrag or ZF in their 318 daily driver???

It is a 20v, one of only 1000 of its kind made, between late 1989 and the end of production in 1991. It has done 54k miles from new, my Dad has owned it for 12 years. Only in the last couple of years has he let me drive it, although power outputs and active diffs etc have moved the performance of the Evos and Subarus on a lot in 15 years, the one category the Quattro can still trounce them in IMO is just pure "cool" status.
The gearbox I wouldn't describe as overly "mechanical". Sure, you know that you are sat atop a 4 wheel drive system, and changing gear requires a shove with your hand rather than a prod from a fingertip, but it certainly has never detracted from the driving experience in my mind. When you come into a tight corner in 2nd, floor it halfway round and then surge out of the bend as the turbo comes back in with a wallop, and the 4 wheel drive claws into the road, the feeling is so great that you could be changing gears with a dirty great shovel and you wouldn't really give a damn!

Nic, I genuinely have had real wake up in a cold sweat nightmares about crashing my Dad's Audi...........consequentially although I have driven it reasonably quickly, I have never really got close to what it can do in experienced hands (e.g. my Dad).

I love that car so much! Like you say, i can think of very few cars that will even come close to the 'cool facter' it has.
