Im going to get a price for some custom Ross pistons soon. It is maybe a little premature for me, but anyway...

I'll be asking a price for standard 1275 bore +0.040" ( my block is currently +0.020" ) 17cc dish ( shape unspecified ) standard pin at circa 0.810", and with a pin height 0.250" higher, to accomodate a longer 6.0" rod
I had hoped Ross might be able to do rods too, but they dont. A UK source may be able to sort some nice forged rods though, at some keener prices than the totally ridiculous £1k Ive seen some traders advertise for Mini rods.

Most pistons have a simple dish shape......My last LS1 pistons were like this. My current ones have a heart shaped dish, much like the combustion chamber.

Would there be any merit in seeing if an A-series piston could be made in a similar way ?
Or is there a technical reason why it couldnt happen ( perhaps dish Im asking for is too large in a small piston ??

Im opting for a 17cc dish request, as this would place my own setup, around very low 8.x:1 CR, as I am using a std size chamber in the head.

Are there any features anyone would want on such a piston ? Anyone any interest in a simlar set ??

These would end up a floating pin setup, with spiralocks in the piston. Ross would be supplying rings and pins.

If you want a taller pin - ie shorter crown-to-pin height(?) then shouldn't you be looking at the JE pistons?

not meaning to sound negative, but why bother with all that when you can just grind the head out?

As I mentioned in another thread..

I once had a head, where the combustion chamber had been modified, from the normal shape.
For months I couldnt get the car to rev above 5500/6000rpm in 4th gear. And sometimes in 3rd gear.

I tried replacing everything, changing timing, fuelling, carbs, pumps, dizzy's, coils, you name it.

There were actually 2 heads, from the same supplier, first replaced for other matters. Both had identical traits at higher rpms.

Eventually, I re-fitted the old cracked cylinder head, in a desperate attempt to rule out the cylinder head as a problem. The car ran perfect again after that. It was then I replaced that head, with a Swiftune item around 96/97 I think, with a cleaned up, but basically un-modified chamber.
My original head, albeit cracked was similar, done by Avonbar way back in early 1994.

After that, I swore I would never buy a head were the shape of the chamber has been altered. And I never will, regardless if it seems to be working for others.

Are the JE offerings off the shelf ?? Any weblinks ?
I want the longer rod.

And besides joey...its no hassle. I just give someone dimensions, and they give me pistons ( after exchange of some money, which is the hard part lol )
I get exaclty what I want, so Im happy.
