Finally got the mini running on MJ yesterday, but after a few seconds got a big woft of petrol!!

After investigation, it appeared to be coming from the bottom of the carb, from the bottom of the float chamber.

Ive taken the carb out to check if the 4 screws were tight (they were a tad loose) switched the fuel pump on to check its stopped the leak and the fuel was coming out ot the centre of the plate, it has got a massive crack accross it (15mm) a fuel is pissing out!!

Does anyone know if that plate is available on its own, and if so where you can buy it from?

If its not availble i was thinking of maybe getting it tig welded, what do you recon?

Cheers

Matt

Matt, not 100% sure but I think it's a standard HIF plate, no difference. Should be able to get one no problem, maybe free.

It's a bit crappy material wise so might be iffy to weld properly. Probably cheaper to buy a brand new piece than weld it unless you can get it done of a thank-you.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I had a look at another N/A 1 3/4 inch SU and it had the External float! You've got me doubting if it was now though!

PM sent Rob *wink*

that will have probably been a HS matty, try and find a HIF (was on later minis and metros's)

In all honesty, I dont know if the hif44 and hif38 have the same cover, furthermore Im not sure if the turbo one is different to the n/a?

Worth a try though.

If you get completely unstuck, give burlen a try

Any clues how the crack has started?

Im pretty certain it was from when I turned it over and forgot to fit the tie bar. *blush*

It sits really close to my old weber box, and it does look to be made of monkey metal. Not really designed as an engine steady! Lol

Do you know if the plates are the same size for the HIF38 and HIF44?

It's all nicely wrapped up with you name on it and ready to go to the post office tomorrow morning.
