After purcasing a pair of outer cv boots earlier in the week, and finding them a lousy fit, I spent a few hours yesterday morning trying to tell the monkey behind the counter in my local parts factor that the ones I wanted was for the cooper s asy, after much deliberation and head scratching he gave me a set which I though looked very similar to the '84 on disc asy (but he assured me they was what I wanted).
I ceanly made my way to work (where Im building the subby up) and fitted the boots and reassembled the drive shafts (cv boots fitted nicely!!). I then fitted the shafts into the hubs to find THE BOOTS FOUL THE HUBS!!! WHAT A DI** HEAD, a whole morning wasted!!!!
Im so annoyed!!!
Sorry for the rant,
Shane.

i'm feeling your pain bud! i get so narked when i go to motor factors, i taje the time to find out part numbers, know what i want usually & somehow they give the wrong parts, ya gotta be hard with these lads sometimes, it make things more pricey due to to-&-fro-ing to get the right parts, hope you get it sorted bud!

SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

Those look like the metro ones. Just cut your losses and get from somewhere you can trust.

Not sure if they are?? checked them against the ones I used on my other mini, and they are the same (runs 8.4" not 7.5" so not an issue.
I might gain a little clearence when the engine is on it and in the shell, Im not going to adress it untill I know its going to a prob fop sure.

But the only difference between 7.5 and 8.4 hubs is in the nose that the disc fits over, the CV side is the same.

Those in the picture certainly look like the wrong ones but with the suspension on full droop it will be compounding the problem - have you fitted the rebound buffers? If not try that and then see if there is any touching.

I thought the "S" ones had an inch long shouler at the cv end of the gaitor to move the consentina shape away from the hub to clear (correct me if im wrong).
Yes all the rubbers are in place, agree that with the sus just hanging may be compounding the problem, I may find when the subby has weight on it, and the sus settled that its not an issue.

We all get days like that ...

Today I went out to the garage with great intentions then ....

The MIG welder packed up.
I decided to TIG what I was doing instead but oh no ..... my Argon reg is leaking ..... not playing with it like that.

Stripped MIG down and found the problem to be a liner that had given up ... off to Machine Mart for another (VAT free special day at my local one so they were open and I picked up some other bits whilst there).

Time for lunch .... Candice wanted a proper meal but was struggling with the Cooker so I did it as usual.

Out to fit the liner and like a prat buggered up removing the tip from the tourch .... snapped it off!!!!

Drilled it out, retapped the tourch .... fitted liner ... working MIG.

When to get the grinder from the drawer and it wouldn't start ... loose connection in the grinder.
Fetched other grinder that is normally used for wire brushes as I lost the disc drive washer years ago ..... drive off other grinder wouldn't fit!!

Stripped grinder down to fix the loose connection which looks like it had been on the way out from new.

Got a few bits for the frame to turn the shell on it's side then it's 9pm and Candice want's feeding again!

Total waste of a day and frustrating too.

Tomorrow is another day.

Keep the stiff upper lip old bean!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

That isnt even funny, really can sypathise with you, finished work late, had evey intention of re assembling the rear suspension and breaks, all went wrong!!! all I achieved was a coat of paint on a few items, and the brake line for the front subby. I ended up giving up and going home.
O well tomorrow is another day!
Shane.
