I will shortly be fitting my flip front to the mini but am undecided on how best to fix it in place. Im not to bothered if it flips up or if its just removable.

Basically im just looking for ideas of how others have fixed theres would, pictures be hugely apreciated :)

Look on the Manchester Minis site (search and you'll find the URL .. can't remember it).

There is a really neat instal documented in a fitting article there.

Im tempted to do a flip front at some point, thats got to best method ive seen yet!

Only thing that puts me off is that ive never seen a flip front with a bumper, and without out it it wouldn't suit my car.

Ditto for me, infact my car and your car are very similar. I am tempted with a removeable fibreglass front but I want a bumper and everything to look completly original to suit the 60's-70's look.

That is the method I meant.

As for a bumper for astetic reasons I agree with you both .... but how hard can it be to knock up a few brackets to bolt the bumper on????

If you can fit the front you can mount the bumper....!

Cheers for the link RogerM and m4dn35s, i did come across that site the other day and found it very usefull.

As for the bumper, as RogerM said if you can fit a flip front then you have to able to mount the bumbers some how. Ill be going for Curley carbon bumpers at a later date to match everything elso on the car.

n.g.l that would be a great help cheers mate. seeing someones efforts in person has to be the best way.

I used hinges from P&L Minis (although they are expensive for what they are) and bent them to suit what I wanter and Aerocatches to hold the front shut available from Demon Thieves and others.

I have no really good photos (although I could get some tomorrow) but have a look at some of the ones in my Photobucket space....
On this one you can see the hinges and the bonnet pins afixed to the inner A panels:

And on these you can just about make out the flush fitting Aerocatch behind the arch:

Thanks Roger - I'm a bit of an imposter here as I don't have a blower but the engineering skills on here are more my cup of tea than TMF and Minifinity (although I lurk there too!). Dd you look round the rest of the photos? Still need to get the car weighed but there isn't a lot to it!

Anyway... there's probably more strength in those brackets than the originals!

They are cut down standard shock brackets welded to the cross member triangulation plate then the pins go right through and have steel plates tieing them to the top if the cross member.

Gives a much better operating angle for the shocks - the standard mouting gives to much radial load on the shock rod in my eyes. Plus as the car is for autotesting it allows it to be nice and low (rule of thumb is to be able to get 3 fingers under the sump)

I like the idea of having the whole front hinged at the back like the bonnet is, ive seen it done on a few cars but not many. Looks the ultimate setup as you get the benifts of good acess (which you dont get if it hinges forward with the ease of opening a bonnet!

Having struggled for years with a 1 peice front, hinged at the front and removeable and then a 2 piece front all I can say is get a 2 piece if its not to late.

Hinging at the back looks good, but the engineering seems a lot of work to me when you can just use a bonnet to achieve more or less the same.

cheers for the links joeybaby83. I think ill be using hinger at the front as like BenH said getting it to hinge at the back and all lineing up properly would be a bit of a mission.

I have a 2 piece front end as i wanted a carbon bonnett showing the weave to match the boot and arches.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

mine's on 2 pins at the front that it slides over, then riv nuts and screws on the A panel, and 4 clips at each corner of the bonnet.

fronts easy enough to take off and to be honest after having a hinged front i'd never bother again. if you hinge it, everytime you do flip it up, you'll take it off anyway. not point having hinges then.

My posts are 2 long bolts with some rubber hose on that go through where you access the teardrop mounts if you get me.

iain, yours sounds similar to way i was thinking. decided not to make it flip as like you said if it needs to be flipped then its just easier to remove the front totally.

thats my opinion also, why flip it forward, and still have it in your way?

another one thats down to preference i guess

Shropshire.

mine 'flips', but i do take it off a fair bit.. when it flips you dont have to find somewhere to put your top notch paint work or unplug the lights etc, just the best of both worlds IMO.

Hinges at the front and pins at the back. Normally use some boot lid cable as a stay.
