we import vw's from california, as said above expect to pay 1000 pounds shipping, anything before 1950 you pay 50 quid tax anything after that you pay a percentage on the value, be that your fake value or the real one your choice

What the fuck are you looking at an F100 for then?

If you want a towing vehicle look at something with a decent engine...

I'd imagine that shipping a car to the UK from the US would be about the same price as shipping from the UK to the US. I paid about $2k USD to have my car shipped from UK to Baltimore, Maryland.

If anyone is thinking of buying a car in Southern California, I'd be happy to do an in person inspection for ya.

Living in South California must be soo cool. From what i can make out most of the Hot Rod and custom car builders are around there! As for a tow barge for alex there is a place near me which sells american pick ups. www.ultimatespares.co.uk

It is quite fun. You are right. Most of the custom car industry is located right here. Chip Foose, So Cal Speed Shop, Boyd Coddington, and West Coast Customs are all within 30 minutes of me. It makes for some cool car shows (of which there is one almost every day/evening).

There is a drawback or two. The earthquakes might heave us into the sea one day. The cost of living here is high as well....about equivalent to living in the more posh areas of London. A 500 square foot one room flat is almost $2k per month! But I can't complain. The ocean is about 100 feet from my front door. And we have the biggest Mini club scene in the US!

what port in the uk did you send it from lance? Ive never paid over £650 to send a car from Liverpool or Southampton docks, i think even less than that last time using Phoenix Aircargo.

The shipping was from Southampton to Baltimore. That was my total cost which included transport to the dock at Southampton, shipping brokers as well as taxes paid.

390's are hard to get parts for, like I mean headers and stuff. Go for a 460! Prob solved.

i can get you parts over here cheaply and also put you in touch with the right sorts of people for the car importing or get a decent deal on it.

but due to current conditions importation of goods, any goods not just cars is expensive in comparison to exportation. For a 40' ex norfolk to uk port you are looking at 1200£ not including taxes on the contents.

someone posted further up about "fake values" please please please please do not do this. HMC&R do look on internet forums, they do investigate these things and they are more powerful than you can possibly imagine. House raid without a warrent anyone? Commandeer a tank? why not.
Please make sure you declare the correct value you paid for the car or parts not some random value the will check. believe me.

as i have said before if anyone has any import or export issues they want help with you can pm or do an FAO and i'll help as much as i can.

Dev

ps sorry if i went a be o/t

maybe you should buy a plane ticket and try driving one.... *wink*

Cubic inches don't make fantastic towing machines alone.

Theres always RoRo, its usually cheaper than a container but there's more risk of damage. Also When My TR was shipped to Holland the guy contacted a company that puts 2-3 cars in a 40 foot container, I just dropped it off at the dock. That helps reduce the cost when 3 people share it even if they charge you extra to load and arrange.

My mate here ships to the UK and as the cars are less than perfect they can get 6 in by building a second level with 4x4s and planks-- height is Ok when its just Mg's healys etc. Then they shove a few motorbikes in along the sides!!

Anyone who wants to come visit is welcome. I'd be happy to trade lodging and tour director time for some turbo bits. huhu
