I currently have the standard Metro oil cooler. I am really struggling to find a place to fit it where the pipes are not getting kinked! Can anyone recommend either a full cooler kit or a pipe kit along with the best place to install it without removing metal on a round nose? I don't want to spend ?50 on a kit to find I still can't find anywhere to bolt it and the pipes are too long/short. Thanks. Dave

Do you really need one? that's the question, If you don't do long high speed motor way work or on a race track for several fast hard laps, the i'd leave it out, as i went with out an oil cooler all LAST year with no problems.

I currently have it mounted on the O/S inner wing right behind the grille and at 90 degrees with the pipes coming out towards the dizzy but the standard pipes kink. It does clear everything though!

I was thinking maybe on the beam that the bonnet clicks into, on an angle backwards to clear the bonnet upright, so my bonnet vents would cool it.

ive mounted mine infront of the oil filter a bit of front panel work is needed but with the grill on you cant tell.
as for pipes what i did was bought the shorter ones then carefully cut the gold crimpimg piece of metal off this allows the unions to come off the pipes then get some suitable pipe and then you can have the pipes as long as you want. cut the pipes to size push on the unions and secure with a normal hose clip *smiley*

p.s you need to use oil pressure pipe mines a mocal oil cooler and i dont know if the uni0ons are the same

Yes miniwilliams, when i first built my old 1380 i had a 13row cooler with guage and the oil did'nt go above 80 degrees. I then tried it without the cooler and even going round castle coombe the temp did'nt go over 100 degrees. I was informed this was a much better temp to run at as it burns off various contaminants!!!
I will run without a cooler when i finish the turbo lump and see wot temps i get b4 trying a cooler.

I've just tapped my gearbox casing for an oil temp gauge. I will be running without an oil cooler to begin with & only installing one if it's needed.

Sounds a good idea to me, they use a dip stick type guage that they put into the engine when they do catilyst tests for an M.O.T as they have to get a certain oil temp to do a proper cat test. So yeah if its possible i cant see why its not a good idea!!!!

To be honest, the metro turbo had the oil cooler on there when it was standard, im putting the engine in a smaller engine bay so heat will obviously be higher, so i want to keep the oil cooler. At least just for my own piece of mind.

Yes T3tone it's nice to hear a "try before you buy" tip answer for a chance, as whats the point in a cooler if you don't need it.

An easy as to fit a temp gauge is to use the T piece that goes in between the oil filter and where it comes out of the block.
Mini spares do the hose and the T piece.
