Ah, remends me of my journey to work every day.

If you like this you would love the Pug 406 T16 rally video. I think it's called climb dance.

You have probably all seen it before. If you have'nt, you must!

In the 13's at last!.. Just

do a search for Tony Pond on google.

Not as fast as that, but still a damn good viewing !! setting a 100+mph record around the TT circuit in a standard Rover 800.

There was a class video of Stians blue Escort Cosworth doing a hillclimb somewhere. Similar footage to the abve link. Superb to watch, and so so fast...

Just cant remember where I seen the damn thing :(

202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

That is fairly mental stuff!! Love to know what the car is obviously sequential boxed, lmp2 don't think it sounds bike engined.

I would love to have a passenger ride doing something like that, the radical sr3 was bad enough and running single seaters unfortunately it denies any kind of passenger rides!

My neighbour has one that I lookafter for him. They are quick!
The only problem is that if you jack up one corner the bonnet wont open due to chassis flex. Don't suppose that would bother Tony Pond. One of the best drivers BL had!!

The thing I'm most amazed at - Is that I never remember hearing about this - Till now.

Where was all the glory and media campaign that should have followed?
I was a big fan of rovers back then (I was young - LOL) but don't recall anything at all???

IIRC was the 2.7 a Honda derived V6 with four valves per pot? A an old mate of mine had the same car but in auto, it had a "sport mode"..That thing was very quick. I remember overtaking a line of cars 5 up and it pulled like a train.

A very understated engine.

I would imagine the car had some kind of suspension tweeks at least.

Taking corners at 150mph flat!, albeit mild bends but balls of steel!

Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

the story goes ,that as a publicity thing he reconed he could get a standard 800 round at an average of 100mph, he tried this on the TT weekend, they did use a standard car on the first sttempt but he failed by a few seconds, the next year the car was modified, by on the video i had of this Tony suggested the only mod was to the exhaust , the reason being the flag marshals could not hear him coming in the quiet car so had not enough time to wave the appropriate flags to warn him of road conditions, i would have thought a blue printed engine would have found its way in there too just to make sure he did it the next time, take the full roll cage, as Dandoy suggests the rover was a floppy car, so any stiffening of the chassis would have helped the handling a whole lot, which he did as you may have seen , by the smallest of margins, lol,

far from standard if you read between the lines,

still a bloody goood watch all the same,

i had the VHS video for this untill recently as i may have thrown it out in a clear out,

carl

its the TTs 100th anniversary this year, rumour has it theyre going to give a wrc a 5min head start and see if a f1 bike can catch him...

every year after the races finish, all the wannabe racers wait for the road opening car (was a volvo t5 last year iirc) to go through and try and keep up, they of course manage to, but the cars can corner so much faster and tighter than the bikes makes great watching.

just after the start, coming down governors hill to the dip before quarter bridge, the road opening car usually bottoms out and pulls a wheelie on the way back up! spectacular to see!
