is there any chance that the pins are worn and not the pistons, in my mind the pistons would wear before the pins do. was thinking of pressing a pin out, then fitting one of the standard pins in to see? 'always keep a spare shot for a stray bird' |

getting the pin out NEARLY always destroys the piston.

Sounds to me like the wrong PIN for the pistons...

is there any chance that the pins are worn and not the pistons, in my mind the pistons would wear before the pins do. Wrong. What happens is that small debris contaminates the aluminium alloy in the soft piston. This wears down the pin, althought the pin is harder. Take a look at rocker shafts. Why do the shafts always wear more than the soft bronze bushes inside the rocker arms. Same think happens. Previously I've removed gudgeon pins and had them pressed in 90 degrees differently. Although a bit bodgy, and not a long time fix, I achieved what I needed. I always store gudgeon pins when a piston is binned as well. For these incidents. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |
