Spotted a crack near the o/s top shock mount. Will the car fail its MOT on this?

Thanks

Neil

Depends on how picky he is. By rights he should fail it as it's close to a shock mount.

I would be wanting to get it sorted anyway and welding in that location isn't too difficult so even if you have to pay somebody it should be a cheap repair.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

dunno, its not structural, but it is close to what could be considered a 'suspension mount'?

eitherway its 2 secs with a welder and a lick of paint

I doubt very much that an MOT tester would notice it as it will be covered mostly by the shock absorber. BUT, if he does see it, it will fail as it is a structural defect in the vicinity of a suspension mounting point.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Cheers for the quick replies. I thought is was a possible faile as it's so close to the shock mount.

I have a welder but it's a long time since I've done any. I'll have a practise on some scrap and see how I get on. There's a couple of people who might be able to help me out if I get stuck :)

yeah its within 30cm of a structure zone (the shock mount) however a quick wix would be to fill it and spray under seal over it (what he cant see he cant test) or seem weld it up bud :)

If it's not there they can't test it ....... if it is there they can fail you on it.

The same rule applies when building kit cars and the like. Even though a Q should be tested as a '72 if you fit things that can be tested they must be mounted correctly and work, fog lights being the biggest offender.

MOT testers are a funny bunch.
