For those of you running Megajolt Igniton, I have some good news for you- an update to the MJLJ firmware and matching PC configuration software!

The new firmware is in 'testing' phase: those of you willing and able to carefully test this new firmware are welcome to jump in and help.

An installation guide is being developed here:

Here are the list of enhancements:

* Dual Ignition config support, hardware switchable (via 'option port') at runtime.
* Full TPS / Alternate MAP sensor calibration support. After calibration, the TPS value will measure actual throttle opening percentage. External MAP sensors will also be possible.
* Hysteresis on all configurable outputs.
* Cranking RPM will default to ignition cell (0,0). This is special behaviour for those that need a specific ignition advance while cranking.
* Enhanced runtime state reporting. User output states & active configuration information is made available for display by the PC configuration software.
* Improvements to interactive tuning- a new controller command allows for more responsive behaviour while tuning a running engine.
* Firmware version number reporting.

Configuration software has been updated to match:

Welcome Brent & thanks for all the work you've done on MJ.

I take it this means that it will be possible to use MJ at boost pressures in excess of 22 PSI? As Nic (GreyPride) & Robert (Ivenhoew) were discussing on your site?

Also I take it V 2.7 is the equivalent for the older version 2 hardware.

Hi Brent.

I've been playing with the software all weekend, and was going to email you some more feedback tomorrow!

Its MUCH easier to get started with than the previous versions and seems to install faultlessly on any PC - even ones I previously had no luck on!

Good work!!

Wow, I feel like I'm home! :) Thanks for your support and enthusiasm.

Rob, the high boost discussion came up just as I getting ready to release the 3.1.0 software package. However, we're 90% there with the load calibration feature in the controller. A small enhancement will be needed in the configuration software to further scale the value into something that's convenient to read on the screen.

A TPS configured MJLJ can also be used with an external MAP sensor... so I'd recommend starting to look around for a GM 3-bar external MAP sensor- it seems that the higher pressure freescale pressure sensors (MPX5700) are hard, if not impossible to source, for some reason.

Looking forward to your feedback on the new firmware!

Brent

hi Brent, first of all, much respect due for your work.

I had a mess about with the new software last night and encountered a few problems, whenever I try to write the new map to flash, it doesnt work and after a power down the old map is still in place.

Any ideas

I have 30 odd MAP sensors in stock!

No problems here - But funnily enough I have been looking for a substitute!

i thought the 3bar ones are easy enough to come by?

Sure thats what mine is and it wasnt an issue. Maybe easier in the uk than elsewhere?

Do you mean it can be used with an external MAP sensor instead of or at the same time as (for correction) as a TPS?

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

3 or even 5 bar sensors themselves isn't a problem.

Using them on a very simple ignition only controler is a different question.

It would use a MAP sensor in lieu of the TPS. Once appropriately calibrated, it would be no different than the internal MAP sensor, aside from the extended range.

T2Cubby, I've never seen that problem before! Are you sending new values to the controller, *then* commiting the changes to flash?

Yes Brent I was doing exactly that, but I didnt have a huge amount of time to mess about with it as Im working away at the moment, when I get back I'm going to spend more time on it and try to find what the problem is.
