Do you guys think that a Payen AF460 copper head gasket would be suitable for a metro turbo?

I think they are crap.

Use a BK450

The BK450 is a great gasket but with a 73.5mm bore or bigger you will find a slight benefit with the 460 as it has a slightly larger ID fire ring.

Well that is my rule of thumb for a NA engine anyway!

I come from the era where it was thought a 1380 turbo would be killed in seconds by bore flex, something that now seems less than likely....

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I used an AF460 once, after so many people raved about copper gaskets ( this was in 1994 )

The AF460 blew between 2-3 within 25 miles. I think that was when I was still on a 1275, although it could have been a 1293, cant remember.

The BK450 ( or OE TAM equivalent at the time ) usually lasted 4-5000 miles, or sometimes longer if I was easy on the car.

So in short, no

Never mind. I have got to do mine at the weekend and I have a AF 460 in the Garage. I thought that maybee if the BK 450 did'nt arrive beforethe weekend I could go ahead with the one that I have spare.

Doesn't sound like a good idea anymore.

Thanks Guys

Nothing wrong with the AF460.

People still suffer failures with the BK450.

You makes your choice and you takes it.

As said, the AF460 is ideal for large over bores.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

One good thing about both gaskets....they come apart clean....

Ive seen me change the gasket, without removing turbo or carb etc... lol

Im not reccomending it...but Ive done it a few times.

Drain all coolant etc, remove pushrods and head studs..

You can then usually lever or hold the head up enough, to slip the old gasket out, and a new one in....then bolt it up again....
When ya end up changing them a lot, sometimes ya do strange things.

Quick release head gaskets *happy*

AF460 is a good gasket. I've used them with good results. Although not in Turbo engines.

Ive found that, if you undo the engine steady pull the engine forward and support with a block of wood behind it theres just enough room to get the manifold off! Once thats off everything else is straight forward.

I think my record head gasket (and bent valve) change is about 90mins. Lol
