I assume the reason for sleeving is to reduce flex in the rod?

How do get the sleeve on if its an interference fit, as there is a cup one end and a ball on the other?

i believe he means sleevign the hole tha tthe pushrod passes through in the head, as enthusiastic porting has broken into it from the port.

the sleve needs to be reasonably thin walled

because of the angle of the movement with the valve train ....push rods

so they dont catch the insided of the sleve

1mm wall thickness is just right in my book *wink*

I don't understand why engine builders advertise with slleved pushrod holes. THEY ARE ALL SLEEVED FROM THE FACTORY on 940 heads.
If you break through the factory sleeve while porting, you're doing something wrong.

Why have you got a hole there?

i see what youre getting at vegard, some tuners advertise it as a performance mod when basically it is just a repair.

but is it really this big a deal?

I think vegards getting at the facyt the940 casting doesn't really need to be taken out that far between the push rods, the 295 with its smallr valves even less so IIRC.

is that actually a 295 casting? i thought 295's didn't have a solid manifold face or were able to take 1.5" inlet valves

No, it's not a repair nor a mod. It's there from the factory for God's sake. If anyone grind through the ORIGINAL FACTORY FITTED sleeve, they haven't got a clue.

Have you guys seen a 940 head without this sleeve?

Vegard,
Is it a sleeve or is the pushrod hole bored to two different diameters?

no they are not,!! there is however a counterbore top and bottom which you may be getting confused with,as it does look like a sleeve,

Are you for real? I pressed one out once, but I have never tried later on because I have never needed. to. I stand corrected in that case. but there's still no need for sleeves :)

All the 7 940 heads I have in my garage are counterbored as Carl said above.
Maybe the earlier ones were sleeved
