First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Im looking to replace my clio with something that i can tow with.
However im doing around 20 000 miles a year so i want something fun and pokey, and that doesnt look too shocking and can get reasonable mpg if i try

Im thinking the octavia is the ideal tool, plus i can chip it for a few more bananas and curly whirlys

However, the badge is slightly off putting-but thats just because im a bit of a tart

im looking to spend under £7K, however part of me is thinking f-it and to go and buy an elise, which wont do anything i want, cost me more-but i REALLY REALLY REALLY want one

WAS'NT THE LITTLE SKODA DIESEL FASTER THAN THE BMW COOPER, IF THE OCTAVIA HAS A QUICK DIESEL ENGINE OPTION IT COULD BE A GOOD CHOICE, I THINK IT WAS PRACTICAL CLASSICS RECOMMENDED TOW VEHICLE OF CHOICE

i think most ppl think the newer skodas are nice dont they or am i a skoda lover lol

Forget the Favorite not big enough for towing IMO.

I knoe two people with Octavia VRs motors. One's and estate and the other a yellow saloon. Both rave about them. I wouldn't worry about the badge. Get a black one with 18" rims and most birds would believe it was Ferrari if you told them.

I seriously considered one, but I'd miss the 4wd of the Scooby.

Go for anything from VAG with any of the Tdi lumps (except the 150 as that is revvy for a diesel .... not the best for towing), fit a genuine superchips conversion and you will have a beast. I was worried when I went from hot hatches (Golf obviously) to the Passat Estate but to be fair it will run rings around anything french!!!

Just make sure you look at the plate under th bonnet to get it's max towing weight and that it's above your combined trailer and load weight. Plod are getting hot on it around here and your not far away .... take an illegal rig on the M5 and you will get nicked!!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

The 200 bananna petrol Octiva has the same engine as the Golf GTi and is just as fast, just shows you how much a Golf weighs! But no I got chased by a VRs Octiva in my RS Clio, he kept up rightly and the 170 bananna diesels are in the 8.6 second range from 0-60. Even with the badge I'd still do it.

For that money you'd be looking at a slightly older vrs with the 1.8 20vt with the k03s (same as my leon).

If you decide to go for one let me know, there's a few little things to look out for when buying, can pm if needs be. As for mpg, before mine was chipping i was seeing about 33mpg when driven granny style, after chipping about £28.

tbh, get the 130 diesel. Far better engine esp for towing, just not as quick.

33mpg!! driven like a granny. That is rubbish. My mate reckons he was getting nearer 40, i'm sure.

My subaru will do 30 easy.

Holy hell Wil ... when I had my STi4 I couldn't get more than 22mpg ... driven like a granny, thrashed all day long, motorway cruise ... din't matter .. 22mpg. I was sure there was a valve operated by the ECU that tipped fuel onto the road if it looked like you were going to get more than 22mpg!!!

It didn't have a fuel computer, but i'm fairly certain that's about what i was getting. Either way, it was low enough to piss me off. Esp from coming from an mk2 golf gti that would do over 40 on a run.

Well Nic,

All I can say is buy the Elise. I have just sold mine after over 3 years of fun. ( I have replaced it with a 250bhp Saab to cater for the iminent family) I commuted in it 40 miles a day and it got an easy 40mpg. It could be a pain on cold days (steaming up) but it was well worth it. I still miss it. Over the years and about 35k miles I had very little problems with it, no more so than any other car and it was so easy to work on.

The only thing I would say is that I always had the wifes diesel if I needed it......

I'm lucky enough to be able to borrow them for a few days then give them back (I think this is the perfect ownership experience!)- whatever you do do not test drive a supercharged one - nothing else will do after that I'm afraid!!

If I had to buy one with my own money it would be a vx220 turbo - of all the cars I've driven this is the one I really enjoy going back to - and very tuneable!

JK

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!
