Just wondering if these are much different, my brother in law had one but never got chance to look under the bonnet.

If it will do the job well then ill be tempted with one he's got.

I use a Montego Turbo Carb. It's exactly the same (plenum and all) except that it has an automatic choke.

I got a conversion kit to change mine back to manual.

is there any reason to want to use this one rather than a metro one or is it just so you can have a spare carb?

Nope no reason at all, just want a spare thats all. If anything its more difficult to use the montego carb as it needs converting to manual choke.
Ive got 2 engines and 1 carb so on the hunt for another thats all.

They only made HIF44(T) for montegos, maestros and metros. Being a 44, it's a 1 3/4". None any bigger were available.
